What was the last time that you were actually called racist? <em>cared<\/em> Are you worried about being called racist? You may be called this a lot, and you don&#8217;t really care or care much about it.<\/p>\n<p>Because the left is used to making racial hatred accusations at anyone who stands in their way. So when people stopped taking these accusations seriously \u2014 realizing it is simply impossible for <em>Everything<\/em> to be racist \u2014 the left began decrying &#8220;white supremacy,&#8221; Using semantically invoking Nazism<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-287581835\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-eee597ed12cd97575f117b3ab38a557b fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-eee597ed12cd97575f117b3ab38a557b\"><\/div>\n<p>After racism accusations failed in their efforts to persuade enough people to act, the left adopted a far more offensive term with a much worse aesthetic while still communicating the same message. The accusation of institutions and people of racism &#8220;racism&#8221; Its utility had been lost due to rhetorical inflation. The era of &#8220;systemic white supremacy&#8221; had begun.<\/p>\n<p>Some believe that the American right and the conservative movement are facing a similar problem with the word. &#8220;woke.&#8221; Many believe that the term has become meaningless because of right-wing over-saturation. Others insist it has taken on more evil tones.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\"> <span class=\"ODlG2YjqU4za0WBXso3mNeViH\"><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">But for the Reddit tier race hustlers, white liberals are America&#8217;s most educated group. &#8220;woke&#8221; It is now &#8220;the n-word.&#8221; pic.twitter.com\/fNCgTUYxl3<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Christopher F. Rufo \u2694\ufe0f (@realchrisrufo) March 15, 2023<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/span> <\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>However, the question is still: Why did the word become so popular? &#8220;woke&#8221; So become so <em>problematic<\/em>?<\/p>\n<h2>Bad Faith<\/h2>\n<p>Bethany Mandel, coauthor of &#8220;Stolen Youth: How Radicals Are Erasing Innocence and Indoctrinating a Generation,&#8221; The Hill&#8217;s &#8220;Rising&#8221; To discuss the role of leftism in destroying American families.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-795debddfe8e96a0e4e7d7c8cf28fff2 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-795debddfe8e96a0e4e7d7c8cf28fff2\"><\/div>\n<p>Briahna Joy Grey, co-host of The Conversation, moderated the discussion. &#8220;Bad Faith&#8221; Podcast, I asked Mandel if he would &#8220;mind defining \u2018woke,&#8217; &#8217;cause it&#8217;s come up a couple [of] times, and I just want to make sure we&#8217;re all on the same page.&#8221; The author then had a moment of self-consciousness during which she stumbled over her words before finally offering a generalized definition.<\/p>\n<p>Despite this, the moment was cut and the author was called a bigot, as well, across the web.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This exercise was intended to humiliate someone who provided a coherent definition or woke-ism but was too deferential for the whims and wishes of leftist ideologies. Mandel (@bethanyshondark) March 15, 2023<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/span> <\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<h2>What is Woke?<\/h2>\n<p>While Mandel was not the usual groveling struggle session one would expect when people express their opinions publicly, it did encourage many to question the definition of the term. &#8220;woke.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-4e6dff63bf35a29ca38e512718b7e1d3 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-4e6dff63bf35a29ca38e512718b7e1d3\"><\/div>\n<p>It began to rise in prominence in the early-to mid-2010s, when it was first coined. &#8220;Black Lives Matter&#8221; The hashtag was used to refer to an organization and not a hashtag. It was also used when the social hot topic of the moment was legalization for homosexual marriage. It is used in common parlance to mean personal vigilance. &#8220;woke&#8221; These words quickly acquired political and social significance. Just like how each community uses different language to signify their loyalty to an in-group member. &#8220;woke&#8221; was used to integrate oneself into the larger leftist cultural hegemony, and, in turn, the Democrat Party.<\/p>\n<p>But as the term became more and more associated with the party, it became less specifically connected with racial protest movements and more so a shibboleth for supporting the party platform \u2014 &#8220;stay woke,&#8221; The slogan was adopted.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\"> <span class=\"b3aRZyfG2DzRinLvme9AhVrWd43cLbgJck4suB11Z7tj8BxrAwuKUTHXmOJNg7WaM\"><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">If we do not vote, it is a signal to the world that our futures and the country&#8217;s future are irrelevant to us. Fudge (@RepMarciaFudge) November 6, 2018<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/span> <\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>It is evident that people who are protective of their identifying labels are woke-ism. &#8220;woke&#8221; are a prominent presence on the left political and cultural. Hulu even had a series called &#8220;The Hulu Series&#8221; that was only a temporary one. &#8220;Woke&#8221; The story followed the journey of an apolitical black cartoonist through the intersectional landscapes that define identity politics. In 2018, &#8220;Saturday Night Live&#8221; We laughed at corporate fashion brands that use woke-ism marketing schlock to hipsters.<\/p>\n<p>Woke-ism was a term that came to denote a movement so insurgent within the institutionalized power of the left, even its vanguards, like former President Barack Obama or Rep. Hakeem Jeffreys, who undeniably played a role in bringing it in, lamented its incoherence and how it distracts the Democrat Party from its larger goals.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This was something that the Democrats fully accepted until they couldn&#8217;t control the semantics. <\/p>\n<h2>It&#8217;s a Bad Word!<\/h2>\n<p>Woke-ism is simultaneously a persistent ideological framework and a general inclination \u2014 it depends on the person or institution in question at the time. But both rely upon a consistent smorgasbord of Marxian dialectics and ideological accouterment \u2014 gender theory, critical race theory, et al. \u2014 that seeks to usurp the ideals of the American founding and impose contemporary whims.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This word is as well-known in the conservative movement today as MAGA hats. &#8220;lock her up&#8221; Trump rallies 2016 saw chants. This is true, and it&#8217;s also completely justified. What other slogany-sounding term can be used as a catchall for leftism?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>While it would be beneficial if the right used a more tactical approach when diagnosing and labeling all radical changes that were introduced to society at breakneck speeds, this is not how people actually work. Although the right can identify and address the specific threats of identitarian Marxism or managerialism and contemporary Lysenkoism as distinct threats, it is not useful to label them all.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Use &#8220;woke&#8221; It is a catchall for radical leftism <em>Is<\/em> effective. It is one of the main reasons the left hates it. They have lost control over the English language and the term they used to describe their radicalism is being used to expose it to the rest.<\/p>\n<p>Woke-ism, an intentionally ambiguous framework, is intended to discourage interlopers and reward its supporters. It is therefore not acceptable to simply describe it as it is.<\/p>\n<p>Simply put &#8220;woke&#8221; works.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-2f84c45d756c015a73c52893f19e5268 fdrlst__b89e9-after-post-content\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-2f84c45d756c015a73c52893f19e5268\"><\/div>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\">\n<div class=\"article-author-description fst-italic\"> Samuel Mangold-Lenett works as a staff editor for The Federalist.
