Scott Applewhite\/AP                <\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/figure><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&#8220;I am very pleased that all Senate Judiciary Republicans are speaking with one voice when it comes to supporting the Second Amendment rights recognized by the Supreme Court in the\u00a0<i>Heller<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0<i>Bruen<\/i>\u00a0decisions,&#8221; Graham made the statement in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>A South Carolina lawmaker lashed out at the Judiciary Committee Democratic side during a press conference on Thursday. &#8220;attacking the Supreme Court decision on <i>Bruen<\/i>,&#8221; Referring to the 6-3 ruling of the Supreme Court last year, which significantly restricted states&#8217; ability restrict citizens&#8217; rights to carry firearms in public for self defense.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The chaos that the Bruen decision has caused was predictable,&#8221; Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL), chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said: &#8220;The Supreme Court has imposed a radical new framework.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Gun safety advocates who attended the hearing decried this ruling as a dangerous setback for domestic violence victims. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Some abusive intimate partners will legally access firearms they were previously forbidden from possessing, and some will use those firearms to terrorize and even kill their victims or others,&#8221; Ruth Glenn is the president of Public Affairs for The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence.<\/p>\n<p>Graham spent his time at the hearing interviewing gun rights advocates and pro-policing advocates. They argued that gun violence is a result of systematic problems in the criminal justice system.<\/p>\n<p>Rafael Mangual is a Manhattan Institute researcher on policing, public safety and law enforcement. He argued Wednesday &#8220;as our criminal justice system has gotten softer, that problem has only gotten bigger.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Between 1990 and 2002, the Bureau of Justice Statistics reported that over a third of individuals convicted of violent felonies were either out on probation, parole, or pretrial release at the time of those offenses,&#8221; Mangual said.<\/p>\n<p>Senator John Kennedy (Republican from Louisiana), who is a cosponsor Graham&#8217;s bill, stated Thursday that the idea was also inspired last year by the Democrats&#8217; passing of the Respect for Marriage Act. This law codified the Supreme Court 2015 decision that allowed same-sex marriages.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It affirmed a Supreme Court opinion. And I&#8217;ll tell you what Congress could not have done, it could not have undermined that opinion,&#8221;\u00a0Kennedy spoke about the Respect for Marriage Act.<\/p>\n<div id=\"dsk-banner-ad-g\"><\/div>\n<p>Sens. cosponsored the legislation. Chuck Grassley and John Cornyn (R\u2013IA), Mike Lee (R\u2013UT), Ted Cruz, Ted Cruz (R\u2013TX), Josh Hawley and Tom Cotton (R\u2013AR), Thom Tillis (R\u2013NC), Marsha Schwarzburn (R\u2013TN), and Kennedy cosponsored the legislation.<\/p>\n<p>Second Amendment rights groups may support any effort to codify Supreme Court gun precedents. However, Gun Owners of America&#8217;s federal affairs chief Aidan Johnston said that the group. <i>Washington Examiner <\/i>Graham&#8217;s bill lacks the teeth to achieve the goals that the lawmakers claimed it would.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;[GOA] would happily work with any member of Congress to help codify <i>Heller, McDonald, <\/i>and <i>Bruen<\/i> decisions into federal law &#8230; Unfortunately, I think this particular bill entirely fails to do that and so that&#8217;s why we&#8217;re not supportive of this particular bill,&#8221; Johnston referred to a 2010 case. <i>McDonald&#8217;s v.
