And because Biden&#8217;s gun rhetoric offers little more than emotionalism, it doesn&#8217;t have to make much much sense \u2014 which, of course, plays to his greatest strength.<\/p>\n<p>Biden delivered a series of cynical speeches about gun violence in the spring and the summer of 2022 as inflation rose to new 40 year highs. As the banking system collapsed under his reckless policies, Biden visited Monterey Park where 11 people were killed by a 72 year-old lunatic last year&#8217;s Lunar New Year celebration. He demanded more laws from Congress. It&#8217;s all just a distraction. However, it must also be discredited.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-200649663\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-68c0d6e46348a24bebac5329c1603195 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-68c0d6e46348a24bebac5329c1603195\"><\/div>\n<p>Here is CBS News giving the White House the lead it was looking for:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>President Biden issued an executive order on Tuesday that aims to increase the number of background checks to buy guns, promote better and more secure firearms storage and ensure U.S. law enforcement agencies are getting the most out of a bipartisan gun control law enacted last summer.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Biden&#8217;s executive order will direct the AG Merrick Garland to increase background checks by &#8220;cracking down on gun sellers who don&#8217;t perform them when required.&#8221; This is already the law, and there&#8217;s no evidence of any widespread problem with licensed gun sellers circumventing checks to illegally sell firearms to criminals. Even if the gun dealers were disreputable, it doesn&#8217;t make sense to put their businesses at risk when there is a strong market for legal guns. However, it is possible that law enforcement sometimes fails to do its duty, as in the Charleston Church shooting. Biden could sign an executive order requesting that the FBI do more.<\/p>\n<p>The attorney general can crackdown on criminals whenever he wants. Biden&#8217;s executive order serves to perpetuate the false belief that background checks will lead to less violence. Biden admits in his speech that goal of his new EO is &#8220;moving us as close as we can to universal background checks without new legislation.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Guess what? It&#8217;s not a fait accompli that &#8220;universal&#8221; background checks will become law simply because Democrats keep demanding it. &#8220;Loophole&#8221; Left-wingers refer to someone who ignores a law that Democrats believe should be passed. The Brady Bill, which established the NICS check system, allows private sales without background checks if they are located in the same state. A right of a non-dealer to sell a firearm to a neighbor or a friend or whoever was negotiated as part of a bill \u2014 this was not some oversight. <\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-bf12715f7810188909923884ef7637fa fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-bf12715f7810188909923884ef7637fa\"><\/div>\n<p>Biden has admitted to trying to reverse legislation by using an executive or, which, at this point, theoretically, exists to help presidents manage operations of federal government and not move towards legislation they favor. Biden is not new to this kind of lawlessness.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Let&#8217;s be clear,&#8221; The president continued. &#8220;None of this absolves Congress from the responsibility of acting to pass universal background checks, eliminate gun manufacturers&#8217; immunity from liability. And I&#8217;m determined once again to ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Gun manufacturers are not immune from liability and do not enjoy any special protections. This is a falsehood. This is a pernicious lie. If a gun malfunctions because of faulty design or production, or if they mislead customers or fail to honour commitments, they can be held liable, just like every other citizen in the country. They are not liable if guns are misused by criminals for illegal purposes. Ford isn&#8217;t liable for six deaths caused by a madman who ploughs into crowds, nor are pharmaceutical companies liable for people who ignore instructions.<\/p>\n<p>Biden seeks to create a unique liability for one industry. Biden can continue to make this claim without even doing a single factcheck because the same media outlets who tag every Republican criticism about the election process with disinformation notices allows him to do so.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-7d4bd4900d8905ad48b2205433941da4 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-7d4bd4900d8905ad48b2205433941da4\"><\/div>\n<p>Moreover, most outlets simply repeat the administration&#8217;s contention the executive orders are aimed at &#8220;curbing gun violence.&#8221; This is highly debatable. This would be similar to the media repeating uncritically the GOP claim that their laws make elections more secure. Biden was actually in Monterey Park (California), where none of his proposed laws would have stopped the shooter.<\/p>\n<p>The anti-gun group Giffords already gives California an &#8220;A&#8221; rating.&#8221; The state has &#8220;universal&#8221; background checks and 10-day waiting period limit for handgun purchases and &#8220;assault rifle bans&#8221; and &#8220;red flag&#8221; laws that allow police to confiscate guns \u2013 and many other regulations that do little but leave innocent people defenseless.<\/p>\n<p>Then again, the only person Biden is trying to save with this rhetoric is himself. <\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1338f9c3c065be53d17ca612ba9c7972 fdrlst__b89e9-after-post-content\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1338f9c3c065be53d17ca612ba9c7972\"><\/div>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\">\n<div class=\"article-author-description fst-italic\">   David Harsanyi is a senior editor at The Federalist, a nationally syndicated columnist, a Happy Warrior columnist at National Review, and author of five books\u2014the most recent, Eurotrash: Why America Must Reject the Failed Ideas of a Dying Continent.
