By committing to using the correct pronouns, we are creating a space of respect and inclusion for all our patients, our staff and students,\u201d Williamson said.<\/p>\n<p>For the uninformed, Mayo Clinic offered an explanation of the importance of personal pronouns.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPronouns are specific to an individual\u2019s gender identity. Often, people determine a person\u2019s gender based on their appearance, name or gender expression,\u201d the company said. \u201cHowever, individuals might not identify as either male or female but rather somewhere along the gender spectrum.\u00a0In these circumstances, people might use gender-neutral pronouns such as \u2018they\/them\u2019 or a pronoun that better speaks to their identity, including newer pronouns such as ze\/hir.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUsing someone\u2019s correct personal pronouns is as important as calling someone by their correct name,\u201d Mayo Clinic wrote.<\/p>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">\n<div dir=\"ltr\">\n<p>The article notes the preferred pronouns of all the individuals quoted in the article, all of whom go by she\/her.<\/p>\n<p>Meredith VandeHaar, a Mayo Clinic cytology quality specialist\u00a0who is transgender, wrote in one of the comments that the pronoun pins will be available for purchase on the gift shop website as soon as the initial order is received and will be listed under a section titled \u201cEquity &#038; Inclusion\u201d by next week.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The comment section on the article about the policy changes is full of approving comments that were screened and approved by Mayo Clinic.<\/p>\n<p>One commenter said she \u201cwould also love to see pronouns added to patients\u2019 charts.\u201d Another exclaimed, \u201cCongratulations Mayo Clinic!!! This is a meaningful, important, and supportive\/inclusive step forward!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In recent years Mayo Clinic has been outspoken in its support of gender-affirming medical treatment, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/diseases-conditions\/gender-dysphoria\/in-depth\/pubertal-blockers\/art-20459075\">including<\/a> puberty-blocking hormones for children as young as 10 years old, saying that such treatment \u201cdoesn\u2019t cause permanent changes in an adolescent\u2019s body\u201d and \u201cpuberty will resume\u201d if an adolescent stops the treatment. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.co.uk\/article\/puberty-blockers-stunt-bone-growth-of-children-tlv8qmdcd\">Studies<\/a> have found that puberty-blockers stunted the height and impaired the bone mass of children who took them.<\/p>\n<p>Last summer, Mayo Clinic expressed its opposition to a Trump administration rule allowing medical providers and insurance companies that receive federal funding to refuse to provide or cover services related to gender transitions.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
