Scott Applewhite)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h5>OAN Newsroom<br \/>UPDATED 8:20 AM PT \u2013 Thursday, March 4, 2021<\/h5>\n<p>House lawmakers are outraged as a new legislation largely backed by Democrats could alter the way elections are run in the U.S. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/house-bill\/1\/text\">H.R.1 bill<\/a>, or For the People Act, would ultimately place voting regulations into the hands of the federal government rather than individual states.<\/p>\n<p>This means voting would become overall more accessible. For example, a convicted felon would be able to cast a ballot even if they are in prison for committing election fraud. People living in the U.S. would also be able to cast a vote without proper identification.<\/p>\n<p>Amid these concerns Republicans are speaking out on why they are voting \u2018no\u2019 on H.R.1.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis bill is unconstitutional for starters, D.C. does not get to dictate how our elections are run in the states,\u201d stated Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.). \u201cI don\u2019t want Nancy Pelosi in California telling South Carolina how to run our elections.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy took to Twitter to note Democrats did not design H.R.1 to protect votes, but rather \u201cdesigned it to put a thumb on the scale of every election in America.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Democrats did not design <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/HR1?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#HR1<\/a> to protect your vote.
