The most recent disaster to make an impact was Hurricane Harvey, which caused more than $125 Billion in damage and killed 103 people in Texas in 2017.

Mississippi

The Magnolia State is well-known for its hurricane and flooding disasters. Vukovic claimed that since 2000, the Federal Emergency Management Agency had received more than one million claims for flood-damage in the state.

Mississippi has been the victim of 50 disaster declarations. These include three hurricanes in 2005: Hurricane Katrina, Hurricane Harvey, 2017 and 2021. There are 50 tornadoes in Mississippi every year.

Oklahoma

Oklahoma is a state that sits in Tornado Alley. Since 1953, Oklahoma has been through more than 217 major catastrophes. Pontotoc County is a county in southeastern Oklahoma that was identified in a study to be the most vulnerable spot in the U.S. for tornadoes.

Other than tornadoes the state is at risk for flooding. It has also seen both wildfires, as well as ice and lightning storms.

California

Talks about natural disasters occurring in California are usually focused on wildfires. They killed 103 people in 2018 and caused $26 million in damage. California is also famous for its earthquakes, droughts and heat waves.

The state has been the victim of 285 declared disasters since 2000.

Florida

Florida has had to deal with hurricanes and flooding for years. Hurricane Ian claimed at least 160 lives last year.

Officials in Miami-Dade County expect sea levels to rise between 2000-2040 by flooding.

Although some states are more susceptible to natural disasters than others; some states can still be safe.

Maine

The most important weather concern Maine Residents have snow to worry about, with 21 inches of snow falling on Bangor in March 2018. The state also receives between 50 and 70 inches of snow annually.

Vermont

Vermont is also a state that allows you to be a part of the Vermont community. Snow The greatest concern about natural disasters is flooding. Residents and anyone thinking of moving to the state need to be aware that disaster declarations are becoming more frequent due to rising flood risk.

New Hampshire

New Hampshire ranks third in terms of natural disasters. Site of the Department of Safety of New Jersey Major disasters occur at a very low rate, with only one or two per year. Snow is the most serious concern, as Maine and Vermont have snow in New Hampshire. In 1969, New Hampshire received 98 inches of snow in a span of 100 hours.

Alaska

Alaska, even though it is extremely cold, ranks second on the list of states least susceptible to disasters. Alaska isn’t immune to disasters, however, it was hit with an earthquake of 9.2 magnitude in 1964 that left more than 100 people dead.

CLICK HERE TO READ MORE ABOUT THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER

Delaware

Delaware is the state with the second-smallest population in the U.S. and has experienced the least number of natural disasters.
