The company also launched the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wkkf.org\/re2030\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Racial Equity 2030 Global Challenge<\/a>A $90 million injection to &#8220;fuel innovative and actionable solutions to build a racially equitable future.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As stewards of our children&#8217;s future, we must collectively face the primary challenge of our time: racial equity,&#8221; W.K. In a promotional video, Cathann Kress, Kellogg Foundation Trustee, and Board Chair, talks about the foundation. <\/p>\n<p>This campaign was launched in celebration of the foundation&#8217;s 90th birthday. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In Oct. 2022, five awardees were named to receive a combined $80 million over the next eight years, concluding in 2030, the W.K. Kellogg Foundation&#8217;s 100th anniversary,&#8221; According to the foundation website. <\/p>\n<p>The Kellogg Company was facing conflict with its employees and the awards came at a time when they were unable to award them. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2021\/12\/21\/1066326419\/kelloggs-union-members-ratify-a-new-contract-ending-a-nearly-3-month-strike\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Fast three-month strike<\/a> In 2021. About 1,400 workers across four states \u2014 Michigan, Nebraska, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee \u2014 picketed against plans for a two-tiered benefits system complete with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/politics\/politics-features\/kelloggs-strike-labor-wages-overtime-1261994\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Weeks of work that last 72-84 hours<\/a> According to union officials, they have limited vacation time. <\/p>\n<p>Rolling Stone reported that the company had cut health benefits during the strike. Workers were forced to pay COBRA premiums in order to keep coverage for costly pre-existing conditions, including cancer.<\/p>\n<p>The company made clear its commitment to sustainability in June 2020 &#8220;combatting racism&#8221; With $1 million donated to the NAACP by a corporate sponsor <a href=\"https:\/\/crreport.kelloggcompany.com\/CombatingRacism\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Press release<\/a> <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Kellogg Company&#8217;s $1 million grant complements the funding that the W.K. Kellogg Foundation provides to NAACP, including $1.15 million in 2020,&#8221; Steve Cahillane, CEO of Kellogg Company, wrote the following: &#8220;NAACP is one of the many racial equity anchor organizations that WKKF supports.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>WayBack Machine says that the letter was published June 12, 2020. Fiona Onasanya, a former UK member of Parliament and Black Lives Matter activist, went after the food giant for selling. &#8220;white supremacy&#8221; With its fictional characters. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Coco Pops and Rice Krispies have the same composition (except for the fact [Coco Pops] are brown and chocolate flavoured)\u2026 so I was wondering why Rice Krispies have three white boys representing the brand and Coco Pops have a monkey?&#8221; Onasanya shared her thoughts on Twitter. <\/p>\n<p>Kellogg&#8217;s shared The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-8423841\/Disgraced-ex-MP-Fiona-Onasanya-slams-Kelloggs-using-MONKEY-mascot-Coco-Pops.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Daily Mail<\/a>\u00a0It is stated in a statement &#8220;stands in support of the black community.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We do not tolerate discrimination and believe that people of all races, genders, backgrounds, sexual orientation, religions, capabilities and beliefs should be treated with the utmost dignity and respect,&#8221; The company stated that the Coco Pops monkey represents white chocolate cereal. &#8220;The monkey mascot that appears on both white and milk chocolate Coco Pops, was created in the 1980s to highlight the playful personality of the brand.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This case shows that regardless of how many million Kelloggs spends in virtue signaling, it will not be enough for those who make a career out of accusing other people racist. <\/p>\n<hr>\n<p> Tristan Justice is The Federalist&#8217;s western correspondent and author of Social Justice Redux.
