Rite Aid was named in the lawsuit. &#8220;knowingly&#8221; Contributed to the opioid crisis.<\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1\" style=\"min-width: 320px; min-height: 50px;  text-align: center;\">  \t<script>  \t\tgoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1'); });  \t<\/script>  <\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>Vanita Gupta, Associate Attorney General, issued a statement.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>&#8220;We allege that Rite Aid filled hundreds of thousands of prescriptions that did not meet legal requirements,&#8221; Guptasaid. &#8220;According to our complaint, Rite Aid&#8217;s pharmacists repeatedly filled prescriptions for controlled substances with obvious red flags, and Rite Aid intentionally deleted internal notes about suspicious prescribers. These practices opened the floodgates for millions of opioid pills and other controlled substances to flow illegally out of Rite Aid&#8217;s stores.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>According to the government, Rite Aid knew that Rite Aid filled illegal prescriptions for controlled drugs between May 2014 and June 2019. These prescriptions were not valid for a medical reason, were not accepted by the medical community, or were not provided in the course of professional practice.<\/p>\n<p>These prescriptions are illegal in many ways, including the following: &#8220;the trinity,&#8221; Prescriptions for high amounts of opioids like oxycodone or fentanyl are a dangerous and frequently abused combination. Also, prescriptions written by Rite Aid pharmacists were repeatedly identified as having written illegal prescriptions.<\/p>\n<p>These prescriptions were filled by Rite Aid pharmacists, despite the obvious fact that they were not written by Rite Aid. &#8220;red flags&#8221; That should have been enough to indicate that they were illegal.<\/p>\n<p>Also, the government claimed Rite Aid deliberately deleted internal notes concerning questionable prescribers made by Rite Aid pharmacists. They instructed district managers to inform pharmacists. &#8220;be mindful of everything that is put in WR.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Rite Aid is accused in dispensing illegal prescriptions despite having significant evidence from multiple sources, including specific pharmacists and distributors. Rite Aid, according to the government, intentionally filled illegal prescriptions of prohibited narcotics in order to obtain payment from federal healthcare programs.<\/p>\n<p>In 2019, two Rite Aid employees, who worked in pharmacies in North Carolina or West Virginia, filed a whistleblower claim in the Northern District of Ohio. The case was later taken up by the Justice Department.<\/p>\n<p>This action is a &#8220;reminder that the Justice Department will hold accountable any persons or companies, including pharmacies,&#8221; According to Brian M.
