It is a $26,500 per-year drug. Veteran with Alzheimer&#8217;s disease in the early stages can use the drug manufactured by Eisai, Biogen. It can moderately slow cognitive decline and reduce the amount of protein amyloid. <\/p>\n<p><b><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/restoring-america\/fairness-justice\/gop-entitlement-programs-medicare-social-security-medicaid\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">RECKONING THE GOP WITH ENTITLEMENT PROGRAMS<\/a><\/b> <\/p>\n<p>Last month, the Centers for Medicare &#038; Medicaid Services denied unrestricted coverage to the Alzheimer&#8217;s Association. They stated that they needed more data before making a decision. <\/p>\n<p>The drug was found to be safe and effective in the tests. <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fiercepharma.com\/pharma\/lecanemabs-alzheimers-approval-eisai-and-biogen-plot-meticulous-launch#:~:text=After%2018%20months%20in%20the,%2C%E2%80%9D%20Eisai's%20Irizarry%20pointed%20out.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">slowed cognitive decline<\/a> Alzheimer&#8217;s disease by 27% when compared to a placebo. The first time this has been done, the results showed that patients could benefit from reducing amyloid. <\/p>\n<p>Leqembi targets amyloid plaque that has built up in the brain. Although it can reduce the buildup, it cannot cure Alzheimer&#8217;s. <i>Hill<\/i>. A study found that the drug had serious side effects including brain swelling, bleeding, and even death. <\/p>\n<p>Due to the drug&#8217;s high cost and restricted coverage, seniors without Medicare assistance would not be able afford it. July 6th is the FDA deadline for approval.
