Bill 24.300<\/a>The D.C. Council approved the measure last year. It reduces the eligibility to vote in municipal elections by one month of residency within the District of Columbia. It also eliminates the U.S. Legal immigration status or citizenship is required. While there are many benefits to being a citizen or legal immigrant, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/02\/10\/house-republicans-block-dc-law-that-would-allow-illegal-residents-to-vote\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Republican-led House of Representatives voted to repeal the bill in February<\/a> \u2014 with 42 Democrats joining Republicans in voting to overturn it \u2014 Schumer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnsnews.com\/article\/washington\/susan-jones\/us-senate-allows-foreign-nationals-illegal-aliens-vote-local-dc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">It should be put to death in the Senate<\/a>. According to the U.S. Constitution Congress is authorized to change District laws.<\/p>\n<p>As The Washington Post&#8217;s Editorial Board <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2022\/10\/17\/dc-voting-noncitizens-legislation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Noted<\/a>The new law would allow noncitizen residents to live in the country, which includes 50,000.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lims.dccouncil.gov\/downloads\/LIMS\/47374\/Other\/B24-0300-REIA_Bill_24-0300_Local_Resident_Voting_Rights_Act_of_2022.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">21,000 illegal residents<\/a>To vote in city elections. If they have lived in Washington for 30 days or more, this law would allow foreign nationals to vote in Washington&#8217;s municipal election.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s ironic that all the excitement emanating from Washington elite circles about it is so absurd. &#8220;foreign influence&#8221; These same people now empower foreign nationals to vote in elections such as the famous Russian collusion hoax.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Why are Democrats in the U.S. Senate allowing this crazy law to go into effect tomorrow?&#8221; Ken Cuccinelli (chairman of the Election Transparency Initiative), was asked this question at a press conference <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ForAcv\/status\/1635398094626889729\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">yesterday<\/a>. &#8220;Even the left-leaning Washington Post recognizes that elections in our nation&#8217;s capital should not be decided by the votes of Russian and Chinese nationals working at their country&#8217;s embassies or non-citizens in the country illegally. Stop the insanity.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Washington is unable to grant the franchise to illegal immigrants and foreign nationals, and does not have sufficient funds to implement it. According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/acrobat.adobe.com\/link\/track?uri=urn:aaid:scds:US:c60bf071-165e-3403-9e44-7c7cb64baaac\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Memo<\/a> Glen Lee, Washington&#8217;s Chief Finance Officer &#8220;Funds are not sufficient in the fiscal year 2023 through fiscal year 2026 budget and financial plan to implement the bill. The bill will cost $1.42 million in fiscal year 2023 and $1.64 million over the financial plan to implement the bill.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The city government should not be able to pay for the cost of the measures if it does not have sufficient funds. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iwf.org\/2023\/02\/10\/house-votes-to-stop-d-c-bill-endangering-u-s-citizen-voting-rights\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pay the bill<\/a>. The American public is not at all happy with the idea of allowing noncitizens to vote in municipal elections. An RMG <a href=\"https:\/\/acrobat.adobe.com\/link\/track?uri=urn:aaid:scds:US:effea0ba-8021-37b8-bd57-3e32544bc015\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Poll<\/a> A weekend poll found that 75% of Americans opposed allowing noncitizens the right to vote in local elections.<\/p>\n<p>The Senate did not take any action on D.C. Bill 24, however. 300, but it joined the House without any difficulty <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/senate\/3890491-senate-democrats-join-republicans-to-block-dc-crime-bill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Vote against<\/a> Washington&#8217;s criminal code was to be updated with proposed changes that would lower penalties for many common violent crimes such as robbery, carjacking and other heinous acts.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p> Victoria Marshall is a staff writer for The Federalist.
