This was at Rancho Santa Fe, California fundraiser. Carter, who, at 98, is 18 years younger than Biden was, entered hospice last month.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He asked me to do his eulogy,&#8221; Biden said, before adding, &#8220;Excuse me, I shouldn&#8217;t say that,&#8221; According to a pool report.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I spent time with Jimmy Carter, and it&#8217;s finally caught up with him,&#8221; Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/03\/14\/politics\/jimmy-carter-eulogy-biden\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">continued<\/a>. &#8220;But they found a way to keep him going for a lot longer than they anticipated, because they found a breakthrough.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Carter declared in August 2015 that Carter had brain cancer. If I were just 80 years old, if I was 15 years younger, I don&#8217;t believe I could undertake the duties I experienced when I was president.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>According to the reports, Carter was answering questions at the Carter Center in Atlanta during his annual report. <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/868124c2ad2b410bbcac74418d77468d\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Associated Press<\/a>The Observer noted that Bernie Sanders, the primary opponent to Biden, would be turning 80 in their terms if they were elected.<\/p>\n<p>Carter made the comment after being asked by a person if he thought about running for president in 2020. Carter said that the presidency requires a president &#8220;to be very flexible with your mind,&#8221; adding, &#8220;You have to be able to go from one subject to another and concentrate on each one adequately and then put them together in a comprehensive way.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Many Democrats still consider Carter a hero, but Carter&#8217;s presidency is widely regarded as one of America&#8217;s greatest failures. He was responsible for the rescue of 52 hostages who were held by Iran for 444 days; he signed the Panama Canal Treaty without consulting the Pentagon and gave up control of the country by 2000.
