Pence had rejected attempts to stop President Joe Biden&#8217;s victory certification, pointing out he was not authorized to do so. <\/p>\n<p><b><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/pence-trump-gridiron-dinner-2023-speech-j6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PENCE SAYS \u2018HISTORY WILL HOLD&#8217; TRUMP ACCOUNTABLE FOR JAN. 6 IN GRIDIRON SPEECH<\/a><\/b> <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Had he sent the votes back to the legislatures, they wouldn&#8217;t have had a problem with Jan. 6, so in many ways, you can blame him,&#8221; After holding a campaign event Monday in Davenport (Iowa), Trump spoke to reporters. &#8220;Had he sent them back to Pennsylvania, Georgia, Arizona, the states, I believe &#8230; you would have had a different outcome. But I also believe you wouldn&#8217;t have had &#8216;Jan. 6,&#8217; as we call it.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>Trump&#8217;s comments are in response Pence&#8217;s weekend criticism of the former president &#8220;wrong&#8221; To demand that he reverse the election results. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;His reckless words endangered my family and everyone at the Capitol that day. And I know that history will hold Donald Trump accountable,&#8221; Pence made these remarks during a Saturday dinner at Washington. <\/p>\n<p>Trump dismissed the comments and claimed that Pence was only trying boost his standing in advance of an anticipated presidential run. Pence hasn&#8217;t indicated whether he intends to run for the White House, but the former vice-president has been a familiar face on campaign trails. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I guess he figured that being nice is not working. But, you know, he&#8217;s out there campaigning. And he&#8217;s trying very hard. And he&#8217;s a nice man. I&#8217;ve known him. I had a very good relationship until the end,&#8221; Trump spoke highly of Pence <\/p>\n<p>Pence had sought legal advice to determine if he could reject the certification unilaterally before Congress met Jan. 6, 2021 to confirm the results of 2020&#8217;s election. He argued that those changes prove Pence has the power to reject these results if he chooses. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He had the right to send them back, otherwise they wouldn&#8217;t have changed the Voting Act.
