Woods suffered severe injuries, including a compound fracture to one leg and a shattered ankle.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re trying to determine if a crime was committed,\u201d Los Angeles Sheriff\u2019s Deputy John Schloegl <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/golf\/2021\/03\/02\/tiger-woods-update-sheriff-executes-search-warrant-suv-black-box\/6894601002\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">told<\/a> USA Today. \u201cIf somebody is involved in a traffic collision, we\u2019ve got to reconstruct the traffic collision. If there was any reckless driving, if somebody was on their cell phone or something like that. If there was no crime, we close out the case, and it was a regular traffic collision.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Schloegl\u2019s statement differs from that of Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva, who said last week that the single-car crash was \u201cpurely an accident.\u201d And authorities\u00a0have already said that Woods will not be charged with reckless driving.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA reckless driving charge has a lot of elements into it and this is purely an accident,\u201d Villanueva said. \u201cThere will be a cause of it and there will be a vehicle code attached to the cause \u2013 for inattentive driving or whatever the case may be.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut that\u2019s an infraction and a reckless driving is actually more than an infraction. That\u2019s a misdemeanor crime that has a lot of elements attached to it and there\u2019s nothing like that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Shortly after the accident, Villanueva said that no data was recorded from the vehicle\u2019s black box that could show how fast Woods was going at the time of the crash.<\/p>\n<p>The sheriff\u2019s department issued a statement to USA Today to clarify the conflicting information provided by Villanueva and Schloegl. \u201cThe Sheriff spoke about the information known at that time, and said it appeared to be a traffic accident,\u201d the statement said. \u201cHowever, the traffic collision investigation is (on)going and traffic investigators have not made any conclusions as to the cause of the collision.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The sheriff\u2019s department has ruled out intoxication as a cause of the crash and Villanueva said on the day of the accident that there \u201cwas no evidence of impairment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And Schloegl told USA Today that law enforcement did not seek a warrant to examine blood that might have been collected from Woods at the hospital.<\/p>\n<p>Woods has already had one surgery to repair his injured legs.\u00a0\u201cComminuted open fractures affecting both the upper and lower portions of the tibia and fibula bones were stabilized by inserting a rod into the tibia,\u201d said Dr. Anish Mahajan, chief medical officer and interim CEO of Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. \u201cAdditional injuries to the bones of the foot and ankle were stabilized with a combination of screws and pins.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
