The sergeant also said \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-soldiers\">soldiers<\/a> had found metal shavings in their food.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While the quality of provided meals has been a problem, the sergeant reportedly said that service members frequently don\u2019t get enough to eat, according to 7 Action News.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou were getting maybe a Danish and some sort of juice,\u201d the sergeant said, 7 Action News reported. \u201cAnd then we had certain days where it was clearly a dinner role and Sunny D.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey said alright, we\u2019re going to make sure we spot check them. And we\u2019re also going to start having them add temperatures to it,\u201d the sergeant said. \u201cAt 140, you cook that chicken, undercook it to 140, and now you\u2019re telling\u2026 you\u2019re telling us that it\u2019s\u2026 a 30-minute drive. This is what they say on the little placard that\u2019s (inaudible) good for four hours. No, it\u2019s not. It wasn\u2019t good from the start and now it\u2019s had hours to become even more dangerous.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Over a dozen service members were in the hospital after consuming undercooked food and falling ill, 7 Action News reported. After several complaints about the quality of the food provided, Democratic Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer reached out to the acting secretary of the army.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow after the raw meat yesterday for dinner they have told us not to eat the meals for the next two days and are giving us MRE\u2019s instead. Soldiers are now paying for all their meals for the next two days in order to get real food,\u201d the sergeant said Monday, 7 Action News reported.<\/p>\n<p>The National Guard described the meals as concerning and unacceptable in a statement provided to 7 Action News. The meals were provided as part of a contract with the Washington, D.C. National Guard to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/01\/13\/republicans-michael-waltz-vicky-hartzler-deliver-pizza-national-guard-protecting-capitol\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">provide food<\/a>\u00a0for Michigan\u2019s 1,000 service members.<\/p>\n<p>The National Guard is expected to stay at the U.S. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-capitol\">Capitol<\/a> until March 12, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said, The Hill\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/defense\/539617-pentagon-chief-national-guard-has-not-asked-to-stay-in-dc-past-march\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a>.
