He will receive an automatic sentence of life imprisonment without parole. <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/murder\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mordes<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Saipov was a 35-year old Islamic extremist. <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/defense-national-security\/new-york-city-bike-terror-suspect-guilty\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">found guilty<\/a> on all 28 counts \u2014 eight counts of murder, 18 counts of attempted murder, and other terrorism-related charges \u2014 in January. <\/p>\n<p>Saipov was driving a rented truck along a New York City bike path on Oct. 31, 2017. Over a dozen and a quarter people were hit by the truck and eight of them were killed. <\/p>\n<p><b><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/defense-national-security\/new-york-city-bike-terror-suspect-guilty\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NEW YORK CITY BIKE TERROR SUSPECT FOUND GUILTY ON ALL COUNTS<\/a><\/b> <\/p>\n<p>The jury had been deliberating for the past week about whether to sentence Saipov the death penalty. However, they informed the judge Monday that they couldn&#8217;t reach the unanimous verdict required under New York state law in order to bring the harsher punishment. <\/p>\n<p>New York&#8217;s death penalty is very rarely used.
