Project organizers had lobbied the government for approval for years. Some Democrats, such as Sen. <a class=\"Hyperlink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/joe-manchin\">Joe Manchin<\/a> (D-WV), backed the measure. <\/p>\n<p>Biden&#8217;s recent moves on the Willow Project, crime, and immigration have been widely viewed as a lurch toward the center ahead of his expected 2024 campaign launch. But the maneuvers have rankled some progressives. <\/p>\n<p>ConocoPhillips and Alaska\u2019s bipartisan congressional delegation sought approval of the project. Under the Bureau of Land Management&#8217;s approval of the project, three drilling pads were given the go-ahead, while two were denied.
