The directing pair met as students at Emerson College and later worked as assistants at the New York Film Academy summer camp in 2009.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThat\u2019s kind of why Daniels exists now. We were summer camp counselors and we were both so hyper and so enthusiastic about making really weird movies with the kids that we kind of realized we were kindred spirits, so we decided to keep making our own summer movies after hours,\u201d Scheinert <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.boston.com\/culture\/entertainment\/2016\/07\/06\/two-emerson-grads-made-weirdest-movie-2016\/\"><span>told<\/span><\/a><span> Boston.com.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The indie sci-fi comedy \u201cEverything Everywhere\u201d was the night\u2019s big winner, taking home seven Oscars including the highly coveted Best Picture award.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Though he didn\u2019t say so explicitly, Scheinert\u2019s comments were likely aimed at several states that recently introduced legislation to prohibit sexually charged drag performances where minors are present. Tennessee Republican Governor Bill Lee is just one of several state legislators to introduce this type of measure, as The Daily Wire previously <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/tennessee-gov-signs-bills-protecting-children-from-sex-change-procedures-drag-shows\"><span>reported<\/span><\/a><span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The Tennessee bill prohibits \u201cadult cabaret performance \u2026 in a location other than an adult cabaret that features topless dancers, go-go dancers, exotic dancers, strippers, male or female impersonators who provide entertainment that appeals to prurient interest, or similar entertainers, regardless of whether or not performed for consideration,\u201d according to a summary.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The Arkansas Senate also worked to pass a bill introduced in January that classified drag performances as \u201cadult oriented businesses\u201d in an effort to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/arkansas-senate-bill-classifies-drag-shows-as-adult-oriented-businesses-in-effort-to-protect-children\"><span>protect minors<\/span><\/a><span> from being exposed to sexually themed events.
