That it\u2019s not 14,000 hours of tapes, there\u2019s 41,000 hours of tapes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McCarthy has provided Fox News host Tucker Carlson <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/speaker-mccarthy-gives-tucker-carlson-jan-6-surveillance-footage_5071282.html\">exclusive access<\/a> to 41,000 hours of surveillance footage from Jan. 6. The host then aired some of the clips on March 6.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTaken as a whole, the video record does not support the claim that January 6 was an insurrection,\u201d Carlson <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/it-was-a-mistake-for-fox-news-to-let-tucker-carlson-depict-jan-6-footage-as-he-did-sen-mcconnell_5105953.html\">said<\/a> during his program. \u201cIn fact, it demolishes that claim.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Footage shown by Carlson raised questions about \u201cQAnon Shaman\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/capitol-police-served-as-tour-guides-for-q-anon-shaman-on-jan-6-fox-host-contends_5104276.html\">Jacob Chansley\u2019s<\/a> time in the Capitol and U.S. Capitol Police officer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/tucker-carlson-shows-footage-of-capitol-police-officer-brian-sicknick-walking-around-on-jan-6_5104979.html\">Brian Sicknick\u2019s<\/a> death.<\/p>\n<p>McCarthy\u2019s decision to share the footage with Carlson has been criticized by Democrats, including President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/biden-says-republicans-tucker-carlson-should-feel-ashamed-over-jan-6-tapes_5110726.html\">Joe Biden<\/a> and Senate Majority Leader <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/schumer-calls-on-fox-news-to-stop-tucker-carlson-from-airing-more-jan-6-footage_5105545.html\">Chuck Schumer<\/a> (D-N.Y.).<\/p>\n<p>When asked if he had any regret over sharing the footage with Carlson, McCarthy stood by his decision.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t give the tapes. I allowed him to come see them, just like an exclusive with anybody else,\u201d McCarthy said. \u201cMy goal here is transparency.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The top House Republican added that it was important to have \u201cequal justice,\u201d pointing to protests after the death of George Floyd in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe one thing I understand in America, we should have equal justice,\u201d he said. \u201cWhat really raises the point with me is, why did I watch federal courts, why did I watch cities burn, federal agencies or something, and nobody arrested there? I think we should have equal justice across this country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd it\u2019s really concerning to me, since we\u2019ve taken the majority, the things I have learned that government has done, that withheld information from the American people. That will not happen on our watch, regardless of what information says or doesn\u2019t say,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think transparency is best and allow the American public to see it all. And we need to have equal justice across this nation,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, in an interview with Breitbart News, McCarthy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/mccarthy-agrees-to-full-public-release-of-jan-6-tapes_5112104.html\">said<\/a> that the security footage of Jan. 6\u00a0 must go through a security review before a full public release.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe just want to make sure we go through them all, and it takes time,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5105778\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/localimages\/GettyImages-1230458620_v2-1200x799.jpg\"><figcaption><\/figcaption><\/a> Police begin lobbing munitions into the huge crown on the west front of the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. Michael McCaul (R-Texas), chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/michael-mccaul-face-the-nation-transcript-03-12-2023\/\">told<\/a> CBS\u2019 \u201cFace the Nation\u201d that McCarthy had assured him that the Jan. 6 footage would be made available to all media.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe has given me assurance, he\u2019s going to turn it over to the entire media, I think. I believe in the fourth estate freedom of press, and I think the American people deserve to see all the footage from that day,\u201d McCaul said.<\/p>\n<p>The Texas lawmaker warned that the footage is not going to show \u201ctourism at the Capitol.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s going to show a very dark, tragic day that I witnessed firsthand, that included our Capitol Police being assaulted, 140 of them injured, two pipe bombs,\u201d McCaul said. \u201cOne Capitol Police officer killed, and a protester killed. That\u2019s not\u2014that\u2019s not a good day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added that what happened on Jan. 6 could have been prevented.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it should have been prevented had we had good intelligence that day beforehand,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Also on Sunday, Sen. Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.), who sits on the Armed Services Committee, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/meet-the-press\/meet-press-march-12-2023-n1303517\">told<\/a> NBC\u2019s \u201cMeet the Press\u201d that McCarthy shouldn\u2019t have released the footage to Carlson alone.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat I do regret probably as much as anything about the release of the 41,000 hours is it was released to one person in primetime who is, you know, rather sensational in his approach and rather than just releasing it to everybody,\u201d Cramer said.<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201cI think transparency absolutely is the best way to go. I think Kevin McCarthy\u2019s right to do it.
