Phil Murphy has quashed rumors that he is planning to run in the 2024 presidential election while voicing his support for fellow President Joe Biden.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on\u00a0CBS\u2019 \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/phil-murphy-face-the-nation-transcript-03-12-2023\/\">Face the Nation<\/a>\u201d on March 12,\u00a0Murphy was asked by\u00a0host Margaret Brennan if he is considering making a White House bid following a recent\u00a0New York Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/03\/11\/nyregion\/phil-murphy-new-jersey.html\">report<\/a> that claimed he \u201chas an eye on Washington.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will say this, I have 1,000 percent, behind President Biden,\u201d\u00a0Murphy, a Democrat, told Brennan. \u201cAnd I haven\u2019t really looked beyond that he certainly is going to run. He deserves to run. He\u2019s earned that right. I think he\u2019s had a great run here. And I\u2019m gonna be 1,000 percent behind him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m a former U.S. ambassador, which in my case was the Federal Republic of Germany. And therefore, the international stuff is\u2014continues to be important to us. New Jersey is one of the most international American states. So direct investment relations abroad matter a lot,\u201d Murphy added. \u201cSo we have a few balls in the air, but New Jersey is job number one.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Brennan also quizzed\u00a0Murphy as to why Biden has not formally\u00a0announced his candidacy for 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Up until now, Biden has only\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/biden-says-he-has-other-things-to-finish-before-2024-campaign_5083887.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>\u00a0that he \u201cintends\u201d to run and that he has \u201cother things to finish\u201d before officially launching a 2024 presidential campaign.<\/p>\n<h2>Manchin to Decide Political Future<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cI know, we\u2019re all sort of expecting it\u2019s next week, next month, whatever it might be. My guess is it\u2019s sooner than later,\u201d Murphy said of a potential Biden announcement. \u201cBut that\u2019s something that the president himself will decide.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Murphy\u2019s comments come shortly after\u00a0Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) said that he will decide\u00a0at the end of this year whether or not he runs\u00a0against Biden in the next presidential election or for reelection.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s plenty of time for the elections,\u201d Manchin <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/manchin-to-decide-political-future-in-december_5101850.html\">said<\/a> in an\u00a0interview\u00a0with \u201cFace The Nation\u201d on March 5. \u201cI\u2019m not going to make my announcement for anything until the end of the year. I\u2019m not going to make a decision, what my political position is going to be or where I\u2019m going to do for my political future. I won\u2019t do it until the end of the year. I got too much work to do now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Unlike\u00a0Murphy,\u00a0Virginia lawmaker\u00a0Manchin\u2014who has cast himself as a moderate or a centrist and has frequently found himself in opposition with his own\u00a0Democratic Party on multiple occasions during his career\u2014declined to say whether or not he would support Biden if he were to be the\u00a0Democratic nominee in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Instead,\u00a0Manchin told CBS that he\u00a0plans to see who is running before endorsing any of the candidates.<\/p>\n<p>So far, only bestselling self-help book author\u00a0Marianne Williamson has announced that she is challenging Biden for the Democrat nomination in 2024.<\/p>\n<h2>Current Presidential Candidates<\/h2>\n<p>On the Republican side,\u00a0former President Donald Trump, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, Montana\u2019s former Secretary of State Corey Stapleton,\u00a0and entrepreneur businessman Vivek Ramaswamy\u00a0have formally announced campaigns.<\/p>\n<p>Florida\u2019s Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis is also said to be considering a presidential run but has not yet announced his candidacy.<\/p>\n<p>While Biden is yet to announce his candidacy for 2024, polls show that his approval ratings have plummeted among Americans.<\/p>\n<p>According to\u00a0FiveThirtyEight\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/projects.fivethirtyeight.com\/biden-approval-rating\/\">polling average,<\/a> 51.3 percent of Americans disapprove of him while 43.9 percent approve of the job he is doing in office.<\/p>\n<p>A separate <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/ap-norc-poll-biden-2024-presidential-prospects-c843c5af6775b4c8a0cff8e2b1db03f6\">poll<\/a>\u00a0from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research shows just 37 percent of Democrats say they want Biden to seek a second term, down from 52 percent in the weeks before last year\u2019s midterm elections.<\/p>\n<p>Follow-up interviews with poll respondents conducted by the publication suggested that the president\u2019s age\u2014Biden is 80 and would be 86 years old upon leaving office if he is\u00a0reelected for a second term\u2014played a big factor in their apprehension to see him serve another term.<\/p>\n<p>However, many Democrats, including\u00a0House Democratic Caucus Chairman Pete Aguilar\u00a0(D-Calif.) and\u00a0Rep.\u00a0Pramila Jayapal\u00a0(D-Wash.), chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus,\u00a0have thrown their support behind Biden, The Guardian <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2023\/mar\/04\/joe-biden-2024-campaign-democrats-united\">reported.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think he will win.
