Redfield stated that he believed the virus was a laboratory leak and was therefore excluded from Dr. Fauci&#8217;s House Judiciary Committee hearing.<\/p>\n<p>Redfield was the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and testified before the House Select Subcommittee regarding the Coronavirus Pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>Redfield testified that he was not part of a conference call with Fauci and other scientists. Fauci used to be the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, and oversaw much of U.S. responses to COVID-19. Redfield explained that the conference call was organized by Jeremy Farrar (director of the British charity Wellcome Trust) in February 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Redfield, who supported the idea of the COVID-19 epidemic being caused by a lab failure, spoke out during the hearing. Fauci had already shared his support for this theory back in January 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Redfield responded to a question asking why he was not on the conference call in February 2020. &#8220;was told to me that they wanted a single narrative and that I obviously had a different point of view.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>During a Fox News interview on Friday, Fauci refuted Redfield&#8217;s claims.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He is totally and unequivocally incorrect in what he&#8217;s saying, that I excluded him,&#8221; Fauci spoke out about Redfield&#8217;s remarks regarding the February 2020 conference call for COVID-19. &#8220;I had nothing to do with who would be on that call.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Fauci stated that Redfield&#8217;s conference call was organized by evolutionary virologists to discuss the possibility of COVID-19 being a genetically engineered viral.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Another point that is important, [Redfield] said, in his own mind, that he was kept out because he was of the opinion that [COVID-19] might be a lab leak,&#8221; Fauci said. &#8220;Half the people on the call were of the opinion that it might be a lab leak. So his rationale of why he thought he was excluded is an invalid rationale, so it&#8217;s really unfortunate that he made those statements.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Fauci said it &#8220;would have been okay&#8221; Redfield to be available on the February 2020 Call &#8220;but I didn&#8217;t put him or take him off.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2>Lab Leak Theory<\/h2>\n<p>Redfield, who testified during the Wednesday House hearing that he believed that the lab leak theory was the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ntd.com\/covid-19-more-likely-originated-in-chinese-lab-than-nature-former-cdc-director_905994.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">most likely scenario<\/a> COVID-19 is the source of the COVID-19 virus outbreak.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This conclusion is based primarily on the biology of the virus itself, including the rapid high infectivity for human-to-human transmission, which would then predict rapid evolution of new variants as well as a number of other important factors, which also include the unusual actions in and around Wuhan in the fall of 2019,&#8221; Redfield spoke to lawmakers.<\/p>\n<p>Fauci claimed that COVID-19 is &#8220;totally consistent with a jump of a species from an animal to a human.&#8221; He supports natural spread theory over lab leak theory. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ntd.com\/us-researcher-with-ties-to-wuhan-lab-personally-thanked-fauci-in-april-2020-for-dispelling-lab-leak-theory-myths_621823.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">You were sent a message of gratitude<\/a> Dr. Peter Daszak is the president of EcoHealth Alliance. He had ties with the Wuhan Institute of Virology. This was a possible origin point for COVID-19 as a part of the lab leak theory.<\/p>\n<p>Republican legislators also made allegations about Fauci recently &#8220;prompted&#8221; Drafting a research paper entitled &#8220;The proximal origin of SARS-CoV-2,&#8221; which was published March 2020, and that asserted COVID-19 to be &#8220;not a laboratory construct or a purposefully manipulated virus.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Fauci changed his mind on the lab leak theory in May 2021.
