The ex-president has stated that he will not abandon his 2024 presidential bid, even if indicted. <\/p>\n<p><b><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/courts\/manhattan-da-trump-invitation-grand-jury\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CHARGES AVAILABLE AS PROSECUTORS INVITE TRUMP TO TESTIFY ON THE STORMY DANIELS FEES PAYMENT<\/a><\/b> <\/p>\n<p>Manhattan District Attorney&#8217;s Office is currently investigating Trump&#8217;s 2016 hush-money payment to Stormy Daniels via ex-lawyer Michael Cohen. Other business matters are also being investigated. The former president was invited to testify by the office, sparking renewed interest and concern for his legal affairs. <\/p>\n<p>These are the investigations that could lead to criminal charges against the former president. <\/p>\n<p><b>Manhattan DA&#8217;s Office<\/b> <\/p>\n<p>Trump was invited to testify before the New York Grand Jury about alleged hush funds payments. <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/stormy-daniels\">Daniels<\/a> During the 2016 presidential election. <\/p>\n<p>Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg\u2019s office has the following: <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/courts\/manhattan-da-will-likely-move-indictment-trump-case\">still deciding<\/a> Invited Trump to testify before a grand jury next week about his business dealings, and whether or not to proceed with indicting Trump. While the grand jury notification may be the most significant indicator that Trump could face criminal prosecution, it may also signal that the state prosecutor has concluded his investigation. <\/p>\n<p><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/michael-cohen\">Cohen<\/a>In 2019, Trump&#8217;s ex-lawyer, Cohen, stated before Congress that he paid Daniels (real name Stephanie Clifford) $130,000 during 2016 to stop her going public about an affair she alleged to have had with Trump in 2005. Cohen pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced. He claimed that Trump paid him monthly installments. <\/p>\n<p>Although it is not illegal to send or receive hush funds, Manhattan prosecutors could argue the $130,000 was an inappropriate donation to Trump&#8217;s 2016 campaign. The theory is that Daniels was silenced by the money and the affair was kept secret before Election Day. It could be fair to say that Trump received the payment. <\/p>\n<p>It is not clear what charges Bragg&#8217;s Office is considering against Trump. The Cohen case was brought up by the prosecution. &#8220;falsely accounted&#8221; For the monthly payments as legal costs. Falsifying New York business records technically amounts to an infraction. The Trump case will require that the prosecutors prove that the conduct was related to another crime to elevate it from a misdemeanor to a low-level felony. They must also prove that Trump was the perpetrator. &#8220;intent to defraud.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>Bragg&#8217;s team pleaded guilty to Allen Weisselberg (the Trump Organization&#8217;s chief financial officer), last August. Weisselberg subsequently agreed <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/courts\/trump-cfo-weisselberg-testify-guilty-plea-tax-crimes\">Testify<\/a> The deal also included a lawsuit against Trump&#8217;s former company.
