And how we move forward collectively, addressing the racism that is being perpetuated.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Kaepernick said that the conflict came to a head over his hair \u2014 he wanted cornrows because he idolized basketball player Allen Iverson, who he said &#8220;wore his blackness like a suit of armor.&#8221; He claimed that his mother opposed the idea and said so because she had once told him it looked terrible. &#8220;not professional&#8221; He was made &#8220;look like a little thug.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Those become spaces where it&#8217;s like, okay, how do I navigate this situation now?&#8221; Kaepernick explained, adding, &#8220;But it also has informed why I have my hair long today.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Kaepernick ended by stating that he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/colin-kaepernick-mocked-for-begging-nfl-to-play-after-comparing-leagues-draft-combine-to-slavery\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Still want to play<\/a> Professional football, claiming &#8220;That passion is still there.
