It showed that DeSantis had a clear lead over Trump, despite the fact that the survey included a large field of candidates as well as a matchup head-to-head. <\/p>\n<p><b><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/californians-do-not-want-newsom-running-president-poll\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CALIFORNIANS OVERWHELMINGLY DO NOT WANT NEWSOM RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT: POLL<\/a><\/b> <\/p>\n<p>Voters had to decide between several candidates. DeSantis earned 52% and Trump got 27%. Former Gov. <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/nikki-haley\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nikki Haley<\/a> (R-SC) getting 4%, former Rep. <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/liz-cheney\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Liz Cheney<\/a> (R-WY) getting 3%, former Vice President <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/mike-pence\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mike Pence<\/a> Sen. <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/ted-cruz\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ted Cruz<\/a> (R\u2013TX) received 1% Govs. <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/kristi-noem\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kristi Noem<\/a> (R-SD). <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/chris-sununu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chris Sununu<\/a> Along with Sen. <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/tim-scott\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tim Scott<\/a> (R\u2013SC), received each less than 1%) <\/p>\n<p>The Florida governor won a matchup with Trump 59%-28% in a head to head contest. Entrepreneur, author <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/vivek-ramaswamy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Vivek Ramaswamy<\/a> He is not the only major Republican candidate who has been declared, but he was included in the survey. The poll took place between February 25 and March 7. <\/p>\n<p>DeSantis is keeping up with Trump in many primary states including California where he has gained support in recent months <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/california-gop-voters-prefer-desantis-over-trump-poll\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">polling data<\/a>.
