They anticipate that this document will be used as political ammunition to show the GOP&#8217;s intent to cut popular federal programs to balance the budget. <\/p>\n<p><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/congressional-budget-office\">The Congressional Budget Office<\/a> According to estimates, lawmakers will need to increase the debt limit by September to prevent default. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Show us your plan&#8221; It has been a rallying cry for many <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/chuck-schumer\">Chuck Schumer (D-NY)<\/a> He and his fellow Democrats raised the possibility that cuts would be made to federal programs like food stamps or Medicaid. Republicans have been enraged by the Senate&#8217;s majority leader, who has asked whether Republicans want to reduce funding for veterans and first responders. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We continue to wait and wait and wait for Speaker McCarthy&#8217;s plan on the debt ceiling,&#8221; Schumer stated this at his Tuesday press conference. <\/p>\n<p>McCarthy pledged his GOP-led House members that it would pass fiscal 2024 appropriations legislation at the 2022 level during the battle for the gable earlier in the year. This would have required a reduction of over $130 billion. McCarthy&#8217;s leadership could face the greatest challenge yet by uniting his conference around a set of cuts. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They have yet to put their cards on the table. They keep talking in these generalities,&#8221;  <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/dick-durbin\">Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL)<\/a>The majority of the whip. &#8220;It&#8217;s time to first establish what they can pass in the House of Representatives.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>McCarthy will have to negotiate with Democrats who oppose negotiating over debt limit. <\/p>\n<p>Budget <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.taxpolicycenter.org\/taxvox\/balancing-federal-budget-10-years-without-raising-taxes-isimpossible\">experts say<\/a> Without tax increases, legislators are restricted in the amount they can reduce if spending on military and Medicare is not cut. McCarthy pledged to not touch popular entitlements and has publicly rejected tax increases. A growing number of GOP legislators are calling for cuts in defense spending. <\/p>\n<p>The political problems Republicans face when trying to get concessions from Biden or his fellow Democrats illustrates the internal divisions that can be caused by spending cuts. This is a fact the White House, congressional Democrats and Congress are trying to make use of to their advantage. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We hear Republicans in Congress talking about how they&#8217;re going to release a budget. And we are calling on them to show us: What&#8217;s in your budget? Is it going to be transparent? Is it going to be fiscally responsible?&#8221; White House Press Secretary <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/karine-jean-pierre\">Karine Jean-Pierre<\/a> At a Wednesday press conference. <\/p>\n<p><b><u><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/house\/mccarthy-blames-biden-stalled-debt-ceiling-negotiations\">MCCARTHY BLAMES BIDEN FOR STALLED DEBT CEILING NEGOTIATIONS<\/a><\/u><\/b> <\/p>\n<p>McCarthy stated that the President&#8217;s decision not to negotiate on the debt limit was indefensible.
