Ron DeSantis<\/a> (R-FL), a political boost before <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/2024-elections\">a likely 2024 presidential campaign<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If DeSantis decides to run, it is possible that he will win the nomination by running a florida legislative marathon. This would strengthen his conservative credentials and help him get elected. But, having DeSantis&#8217; agenda approved by his state legislators is not without risk. It could make him less popular with independent voters during a general election.<\/p>\n<p><b><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/cpac-2023-trump-retribution-freaks-neocons\">CPAC 2023: TRUMP PLEDGES &#8216;RETRIBUTION&#8217; AND ATTACKS GOP ESTABLISHMENT &#8216;FREAKS, NEOCONS, OPEN BORDER ZEALOTS, AND FOOLS&#8217;<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p>DeSantis, Florida Republicans, and Florida Democrats hope that the state legislature session 2023, which began Tuesday, will be a success. &#8220;a launching pad&#8221; According to Aubrey Jewett, University of Central Florida political professor <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In the short run, politically, I don&#8217;t see any negatives to this strategy,&#8221; Jewett said the <i>Washington Examiner.<\/i> &#8220;He has really leaned into taking unyielding conservative positions, and it has paid dividends for him. He raised a record amount of money, won reelection handily, seen his poll numbers across the country shoot up, and he is the main Republican opponent to <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\">[former President] Donald Trump<\/a> for the Republican primary.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;But if you win that primary and you&#8217;ve gotten this record of being very conservative, some critics would say &#8216;extreme&#8217; even in some cases, will that work in a general election?&#8221; He asked. &#8220;The answer is I don&#8217;t know for sure.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/white-house\">The White House<\/a> DeSantis&#8217; and Florida Republicans have been criticised by Democrats already for their conservative policies. They want to implement a 6-week ban on abortion, but with exceptions to safeguard the mother&#8217;s health or to prevent incest. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Florida&#8217;s proposed bill would ban abortion before many women know if they are pregnant, virtually eliminating a woman&#8217;s right to make healthcare decisions about her own body,&#8221; <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/karine-jean-pierre\">White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre<\/a> Tuesday, &#8220;Politicians like Gov. DeSantis espouse &#8216;freedom for all,&#8217; while directly attacking the freedom to make one&#8217;s own healthcare decisions.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/dnc\">Democratic National Committee<\/a> Jaime Harrison was the Chairman. &#8220;Time and time again, Ron DeSantis has made it clear he will do anything in his race for the MAGA base, even if it means pushing for one of the strictest abortion bans in the country.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>After outperforming last year&#8217;s expectations, Democrats took Florida&#8217;s abortion bill into consideration. This was partly due to their performance in the midterm elections. <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/supreme-court\">Supreme Court<\/a> Turning <i><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/roe-v-wade\">Roe v. Wade<\/a><\/i>  <i><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/dobbs-v-jackson-womens-health-organization\">Dobbs v. Jackson Women&#8217;s Health Organization<\/a><\/i>. DeSantis&#8217;s veto-proof Florida Republicans outperformed all expectations, and DeSantis was defeated <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/dobbs-v-jackson-womens-health-organization\">former Democratic Florida Gov.
