Maggie Hassan (D-N.H.), Sen. Mike Braun (R-Ind.According to, Rep. Henry Cuellar of Texas and Rep. Nancy Mace from South Carolina. <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/business\/3886864-bipartisan-group-revives-push-targeting-wasteful-government-spending\/\">The Hill<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4301026\"><figcaption> Sen. (Anna Moneymaker\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&#8220;Duplicative or wasteful programs in the federal government often go on for too long without being eliminated,&#8221; Hassan <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hassan.senate.gov\/news\/press-releases\/senate-passes-bipartisan-legislation-from-senators-hassan-braun-to-reduce-wasteful-spending-in-the-federal-government\">said<\/a> In December, after the Senate&#8217;s passage of the bill.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I introduced this bipartisan bill with Sen. Braun because we need to ensure that the federal government is identifying and stopping these wasteful programs.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was a pleasure for me to see the Senate pass this sensible legislation that will save taxpayer money and improve the efficiency of our government. I urge you to push the House to adopt it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The bipartisan push for increased fiscal responsibility comes as national debt ceiling negotiations between Democrats and Republicans have reportedly reached an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/we-have-to-pay-our-sins-lawmakers-must-negotiate-way-out-of-us-debt-crisis-sen-manchin_5097276.html\">impasse<\/a> on Capitol Hill.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, the national debt ceiling\u2014which limits how much debt can be incurred by the Treasury Department\u2014is capped at $31.4 trillion. In January, the government reached that threshold, prompting the Treasury to employ &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us-reaches-debt-ceiling-forcing-treasury-into-extraordinary-measures_4996289.html\">extraordinary measures<\/a>To prevent default<\/p>\n<p>Recent MCSI survey <a href=\"https:\/\/www.msci.com\/www\/blog-posts\/will-the-us-government-default\/03685813408\">report<\/a>The likelihood of an American debt default is high <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/probability-of-debt-default-has-risen-300-percent-since-start-of-year-report_5098943.html?ea_src=ai&#038;ea_med=search\">tripled<\/a> Since January, to &#8220;levels never seen since 2013 Debt-Ceiling Debate.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>However <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/POTUS\/status\/1630664721832484890\">President Joe Biden<\/a> Janet Yellen, Treasury Secretary\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/yellen-every-responsible-member-of-congress-must-agree-to-raise-debt-ceiling_5037309.html\">urged<\/a> Congress must increase the debt limit to prevent a financial catastrophe.&#8221; Republicans have said they would need spending concessions from Democrats before agreeing to an increase.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Democrats demand that Republicans vote to increase the debt limit in order to pay for billions of dollars more spending. It is a politically stunt.&#8221; said Rep. Kevin Hern (R-Okla.), chairman of the House Republican Study Committee, on Feb. 1.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, in rebuke of the government&#8217;s &#8220;Braun presented a list of &#8220;unbalanced budgets and reckless spending,&#8221; which Braun described as &#8220;wasteful spending.&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.braun.senate.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/2023-03\/Braun%20Biggs%20National%20Debt_0.pdf\">resolution<\/a>\u00a0Recognize the threat of national security by officially recognizing national debt.<\/p>\n<p>Braun stated in March that the United States&#8217; staggering national debt was the biggest national security risk.
