Council Chairman Phil Mendelson <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MissBeaE\/status\/1632776992289435650\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sent a letter<\/a> On Monday, Vice President Kamala Harris (the president of the Senate) announced that he would withdraw the Revised Criminal Code Act, which was under congressional scrutiny, from consideration.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Withdrawal enables the Council to work on the measure in light of Congressional comments, and to re-transmit it later,&#8221; He wrote.<\/p>\n<p>The overhaul would improve an old system. Critics feared it would encourage wrongdoing by decreasing penalties for some crimes.<\/p>\n<p>The D.C. Council last year voted in favor of overhauling the century-old criminal codes. Muriel Bowser, D.C. Democratic Mayor, vetoed criminal code amendments. However councilmembers voted against the veto.<\/p>\n<p>The issue was not settled, however. Congress is authorized to examine any D.C. Council legislation before it becomes Home Rule law.<\/p>\n<p>The Republican majority has won the House. <a href=\"https:\/\/clerk.house.gov\/Votes\/2023119\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">voted in February to disapprove<\/a> The Revised Criminal Code Act was supported by 31 Democrats <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/biden-says-he-will-sign-bills-blocking-d-c-s-radical-overhaul-of-voting-rights-criminal-code\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Biden announced his opposition<\/a> The Democrat-led Senate considered the reform last week.<\/p>\n<p><b data-stringify-type=\"bold\"><a class=\"c-link c-link--focus-visible\" href=\"https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-stringify-link=\"https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp\" data-sk=\"tooltip_parent\" aria-describedby=\"sk-tooltip-211076\">CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILY WIRE APP<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I support D.C. Statehood and home-rule \u2013 but I don&#8217;t support some of the changes D.C. Council put forward over the Mayor&#8217;s objections \u2013 such as lowering penalties for carjackings,&#8221; Biden tweeted. &#8220;If the Senate votes to overturn what D.C.
