The memo detailed a conference call with former\u00a0National Institutes of Health (NIH) Director Dr. Francis Collins, former\u00a0National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Dr. Anthony Fauci, and at least 11 other scientists in early February 2020, just about a week after the first COVID-19 case was confirmed in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Collins and Fauci received a call on February 1, 2020 warning them about the possible spread of the virus from Wuhan (China) in the latter part of 2019, according Sunday&#8217;s memo.<\/p>\n<p>A paper was published by four conference participants three days following the call.\u00a0&#8220;The Proximal Origin of SARS-CoV-2&#8221; A draft was sent to Collins and Fauci by the author, according to the memo. It stated that the two official were authorized to approve and edit the draft.<\/p>\n<p>The memo revealed that Collins had sent Fauci an email two months after the fact. &#8220;dismay that Proximal Origin\u2014which they saw prior to publication and were given the opportunity to edit\u2014did not squash the lab leak hypothesis and [asked] if the NIH can do more to \u2018put down&#8217; the lab leak hypothesis&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The House GOP committee cited internal emails to prove that Fauci was indeed present in the House GOP committee. &#8220;prompted&#8221; Dr. Kristian Andersen of\u00a0Scripps Research to write the Proximal Origin paper and that it was designed &#8220;to \u2018disprove&#8217; any lab leak theory.&#8221; In August 2021,\u00a0Scripps issued a letter to Republican House investigators and said that &#8220;Dr. Anthony Fauci did not attempt to influence his work. Both statements do not appear to be supported by the available evidence.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Proximal Origin Paper <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41591-020-0820-9\">abstract<\/a>\u00a0The possibility that the virus might have originated via Malaysian pangolins is suggested because &#8220;contain coronaviruses similar to SARS-CoV.&#8221; The following was added: &#8220;The presence in pangolins of [a virus&#8217; receptor-binding domain] very similar to that of SARS-CoV-2 means that we can infer this was also probably in the virus that jumped to humans.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>But Sunday&#8217;s memo, citing internal emails,\u00a0stipulated that Anderson &#8220;did not find the pangolin data compelling&#8221; After being interviewed, he only completed the paper. &#8220;prompted&#8221; Fauci and Collins among others.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Privately, Dr. Andersen did not believe the pangolin data disproved a lab leak theory despite saying so publicly. It is still unclear what intervening event changed the minds of the authors of Proximal Origin in such a short period of time,&#8221; According to the House committee. &#8220;Based on this new evidence, the pangolin data was not the compelling factor; to this day, the only known intervening event was the February 1 conference call with Dr. Fauci.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4348226\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/localimages\/francis-collins-2-1200x800.jpg\"><figcaption><\/figcaption><\/a> On September 9, 2020, Dr. Francis Collins will speak in Washington. Fauci has been heavily criticized for handling COVID-19 and his dire predictions regarding the course of the virus&#8217; development early in the pandemic. Collins and Fauci have not yet made any public comments in response to Sunday&#8217;s House committee memo.<\/p>\n<p>While in congressional hearings, Fauci clashed with Republicans\u2014namely Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.). Fauci disregarded Paul&#8217;s claims that his agency paid a third-party organization to conduct controversial research on bat coronaviruses in a Wuhan laboratory and other locations, 2021. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/fauci-clearly-misled-congress-over-covid-19-origins-former-cdc-director_4736252.html\">said<\/a> Paul &#8220;You do not know what you are talking about, quite frankly, and I want to say that officially. You do not know what you are talking about.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Fauci said last year that, just weeks before he left his federal job, he would cooperate with Republican-led congressional inquiries into his agency. The revelation came at a time when GOP legislators signaled that they will intensify investigations into federal government response to pandemics and whether agencies tried to hide the source of the virus.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;d be more than happy to discuss anything that we&#8217;ve done over the last several years with this outbreak, since I have nothing to hide and I can defend everything we&#8217;ve done,&#8221; He <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/fauci-responds-to-republican-probe-threat-after-gop-poised-to-retake-house_4865292.html\">said<\/a> In November.<\/p>\n<p>Christopher Wray, FBI Director, told Fox News that the FBI believes the virus originated from Wuhan&#8217;s lab.
