I think it&#8217;s been six near-misses in the last two months.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">GOP Sen. The nominee was criticized by many Republicans for what they call a lack in experience. Ted Budd, North Carolina Republican Senator <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/03\/01\/us\/politics\/phil-washington-faa-nominee.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>said,<\/span><\/a><span> &#8220;The FAA can&#8217;t afford to be led by someone who needs on-the-job training.&#8221; Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) argued Washington&#8217;s &#8220;record is woefully lacking,&#8221; adding, &#8220;in fact, you have zero aviation safety experience.&#8221; Sullivan echoed these sentiments Sunday. He said it was a &#8220;tough hearing&#8221; Washington: who &#8220;doesn&#8217;t have a lot of experience with regard to aviation safety.&#8221;\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As a military veteran and leader of three large transportation organizations, my broad transportation safety knowledge and real world leadership experiences provide me a unique perspective on how aviation on all modes of transportation should integrate into a seamless system,&#8221; Washington <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/03\/01\/politics\/phil-washington-senate-hearing\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> His qualifications.<\/p>\n<p><span>Biden had nominated Washington as the new CEO at Denver International Airport, and the previous CEO of Los Angeles Metro Transit Authority. However, he didn&#8217;t choose Washington. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/03\/01\/us\/politics\/phil-washington-faa-nominee.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">receive<\/a> He was not present at that hearing. He was nominated <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/03\/01\/us\/politics\/phil-washington-faa-nominee.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>resubmitted<\/span><\/a><span> The position was vacant in January but it has not had a permanent administrator for nearly one year. Stephanopoulos questioned Sullivan about whether the vacancy had any impact on aviation safety. The senator answered, &#8220;Absolutely it has.&#8221;\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The FAA was notified after a JetBlue and Learjet plane nearly collided at Boston\u2019s Logan Airport. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-us-canada-64805935\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>investigate<\/span><\/a><span> The &#8220;close call.&#8221; It was the sixth such close miss in America this year. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/runway-incursions-near-misses-airport-runways-whats-happening\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>according<\/span><\/a><span> CBS News. United Airlines flight 103 was landing at Honolulu Airport on 23 January. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/travel\/article\/investigations-runway-close-calls\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>reportedly<\/span><\/a><span> A Cessna plane landing improperly had to cross a runway. Mid-January saw two JetBlue jets. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/newyork\/news\/2-jetblue-planes-bump-into-one-another-on-runway-at-jfk-airport\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bumped<\/a> At New York&#8217;s JFK Airport, they met up. Near-misses similar to those at Newark Airport and Austin-Bergstrom Airport were also reported.
