The latest sign of that shift came Thursday when President Joe Biden said he won't oppose an effort in Congress to undo a liberal crime law put in place recently by the Washington, D.C., City Council.\"><meta itemprop=\"duration\" content=\"PT1M56S\"><meta itemprop=\"uploadDate\" content=\"2023-03-03 19:42:45\"><meta itemprop=\"thumbnailURL\" content=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/localimages\/1253541_th_1677872566.jpg\"><meta itemprop=\"contentUrl\" content=\"https:\/\/cdn.brid.tv\/live\/partners\/19383\/sd\/1253541.mp4\"><\/div>\n<p> <script type=\"text\/javascript\"> var _bp=_bp||[]; _bp.push({ \"div\": \"Brid_77883509\", \"obj\": {\"id\":\"27789\",\"width\":\"16\",\"height\":\"9\",\"video\":\"1253541\"} }); <\/script> <script type=\"text\/javascript\" async src=\"https:\/\/services.brid.tv\/player\/build\/brid.min.js\"><\/script> <\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Democrats abandon liberal values  <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/criminal-justice-reform\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">criminal justice reforms<\/a> As their voters express disapproval of officials&#8217; attempts to ease laws,<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, President Barack Obama gave the most recent sign of this shift.  <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/joe-biden\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Joe Biden<\/a> His opposition to a Congress effort to reverse a liberal criminal law that was recently enacted by the Congress is not his.  <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/washington-dc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Washington, D.C.<\/a> City Council.<\/p>\n<p><b> <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/politics\/big-city-crime-wave-sweeps-progressives-office\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BIG CITY CRIME WAVE SWEEPS PROGRESSIVES FROM OFFICE<\/a> <\/b><\/p>\n<p>The evidence for the shift in party attitude is becoming more evident, as evidenced by a rise in crime in the last two years that effectively squashed Democrats&#8217; attempts to reform law enforcement and criminal justice.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The president&#8217;s decision to sign the congressional bill to override the D.C. crime law is certainly a signal that attempts to reduce sentences for violent offenders is a nonstarter even among Democrats,&#8221; Brad Bannon was a Democratic strategist who spoke to the <i>Washington Examiner<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;But the Democratic desire to prevent police murders of victims like Tyre Nichols, George Floyd, and Tamir Rice is very much alive,&#8221; Bannon added. &#8220;This effort will intensify after the next tragic instance of police violence.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Biden stated that he would sign legislation to override the D.C. City Council\u2019s crime laws after 173 House Democrats had voted against them weeks before.<\/p>\n<div class=\"Enhancement\" data-align-center>\n<div class=\"Enhancement-item\">\n<div class=\"TweetEmbed\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I support D.C. Statehood and home-rule \u2013 but I don&#8217;t support some of the changes D.C. Council put forward over the Mayor&#8217;s objections \u2013 such as lowering penalties for carjackings.<\/p>\n<p>If the Senate votes to overturn what D.C. Council did \u2013 I&#8217;ll sign it.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 President Biden (@POTUS) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/POTUS\/status\/1631392285182009376?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 2, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>              <\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Some Democrats felt betrayed by this move, considering that Biden had been previously stated to have opposed the measure. Moreover, the White House indicated that some Democratic legislators had followed that lead and were open to attack.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;So, a lot of us who are allies voted no in order to support what the White House wanted. And now, we are being hung out to dry,&#8221; One House Democrat  <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/house\/3881888-house-democrats-blindsided-as-biden-changes-tune-on-dc-crime-bill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told <\/a> The <i>Hill<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>Some Democrats were left in a very difficult situation by the fact that they voted to keep the D.C. law intact. This is reflected in the emerging consensus about crime within the party.<\/p>\n<p>Most Democrats opposed to the D.C. criminal law were doing so to defend the city&#8217;s ability to govern itself. Nearly none Democrats supported the substance of this law, which reduces penalties for offences such as carjacking or eliminates mandatory minimum sentences.<\/p>\n<p>National Democrats have been more open to criticizing liberals on criminal justice reform so far than local Democrats. A reflection of how effective Republicans dealt with the question of crime in the last midterm election, every member of Congress except the most progressive Democrats has adopted a harsher tone than usual when discussing criminal justice reform and policing.<\/p>\n<p>Some local Democrats (like the twelve members of the D.C.
