This is the largest ever drug bust in Australia.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Western Australian Police Force, 12 persons were detained by it on Saturday. One of them was an American who is allegedly connected with a Mexican cartel.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It [the cocaine] represented more than half of the annual cocaine consumption in Australia as a whole. That is significant in itself,&#8221; David Palmer, detective senior sergeant, stated: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/WA.Police\/videos\/143340391669534\">a video<\/a> WA police posted the following.<\/p>\n<p>The WA police stated that &#8220;Operation Beech&#8221; The operation was initiated last November, after the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration intercepted nearly 2.4 tonnes worth of cocaine that had been bound for Australia from the South American coast.<\/p>\n<p>Police in WA replaced the drug cargo with an inert material and the same packaging as the cartel, and it was dropped approximately 40 nautical miles west from Perth&#8217;s coast Dec. 28th 2022.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Once dropping the substituted substance in the ocean, we knew there was going to be people that were going to attend that location to collect that.
