I finally got the courage to tell her. &#8220;I&#8217;m your husband, go see your doctor.&#8221; She called the doctor&#8217;s office and after 40 minutes working her way through the confusing, circular, and interminable phone tree, she got the next available appointment \u2014 seven months in the future. The diagnosis of inoperable Pancreatic Cancer was confirmed when she finally got in to see her primary physician. My 54-year-old wife and college sweetheart died two months later. What if she was seen two years earlier?<\/p>\n<p>Everybody in the world is aware of the Covid-19 epidemic. A health crisis that has claimed the lives of millions without any fanfare: death by waiting lists. My wife was most likely one of the victims.<\/p>\n<p>Death by queue is a term that was coined in the United Kingdom. &#8220;queue&#8221; A queue of people waiting to get something. Death by queue is when someone dies while they wait in line to receive care that is technically feasible but not available when they need it. Death by queue is a long-standing practice. <a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/2dbBERz\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">This feature is available<\/a> The much-lauded British National Health Service (NHS) was the model for President Barack Obama\u2019s Affordable Care Act (ACA). Recent reports highlight <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/01\/23\/uk\/uk-nhs-crisis-falling-apart-gbr-intl\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">heart attack<\/a> Victims of the NHS not providing timely care and calls for help are dying as a result. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/02\/06\/business\/nhs-strikes-private-healthcare-uk\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">private physicians<\/a> (those few people who are still) to provide timely care for patients because NHS (government) doctors can&#8217;t.<\/p>\n<p>Americans also die in the queue. Washington is not happy with this pandemic, so the corporate media complicit ignore it.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to Obamacare the average maximum <a href=\"https:\/\/www.merritthawkins.com\/news-and-insights\/thought-leadership\/survey\/survey-of-physician-appointment-wait-times\/?utm_source=google&#038;utm_medium=cpc&#038;utm_campaign=Merritt+Hawkins_DSA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wait time<\/a> Unconscionable waiting times of 92 days were already unacceptable. The maximum wait time for government-provided, no cost Medicaid insurance has increased to 120 days with the ACA expansion.<\/p>\n<p>Illinois for more than three years <a href=\"https:\/\/www.illinoispolicy.org\/hundreds-on-medicaid-waiting-list-in-illinois-die-while-waiting-for-care-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">752<\/a> Medicaid enrollees were killed waiting for critical medical treatment. An audit by the Veterans Affairs Department concluded that:<a href=\"https:\/\/www.va.gov\/oig\/pubs\/VAOIG-14-01792-510.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">47,000 Veterans<\/a> &#8220;may have died&#8221; waiting in line to receive care that was technically possible, but not available. Tricare insurance, which is government-provided for veterans, covers them. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It is impossible to estimate the death rate by queue in all 50 states. Great Britain&#8217;s average death rate per queue is at least &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/news\/uk\/117-000-die-nhs-waiting-lists-covid-backlog-b1010262.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">117,000<\/a> die[d] The Evening Standard reports that there are currently no waiting lists for the NHS in 2020 or 2021.<\/p>\n<p>My wife may have been another victim of death-by-queue, but she is not the only one. Numerous studies show that this is the case. <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2023\/02\/21\/pandemic-irreversibly-changed-america-health-care-system-consequences-delayed-care-edelman-mussallem\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">delay in diagnosis<\/a> These are life-threatening conditions that can lead to death <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bmj.com\/content\/371\/bmj.m4087\">Cancer<\/a> These deaths could be avoided. Wait times to see the primary doctor and get started with the diagnostic process are what is killing these patients.<\/p>\n<p> Long Wait Times: Causes <\/p>\n<p>Washington considers the death-by queue pandemic a scourge of Washington&#8217;s federal regulations. This is the main reason for long wait times. First, the regulatory burden placed on providers. Administrative and regulatory requirements consume time and money that could be used for patients.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>There is also &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2OWKbLs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Bureaucratic diversion<\/a>&#8220;When money is taken out of clinical care to fund bureaucracy administration rules, regulations compliance and oversight.
