In some ways, however, the American driver who doesn&#8217;t participate in the series will be just as memorable as the one who does.<\/p>\n<p>It became clear that an American-born driver and American-based team could not join Formula One after they swapped rides in the off-season. Formula One&#8217;s institutional bias favoring the European-based feeder Series, which Formula One manages, was the final straw in the matter.<\/p>\n<p>It is a good thing. <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/12\/14\/formula-one-racing-is-finally-picking-up-speed-with-its-u-s-fanbase\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">American fans get a renewed offer<\/a> The annual Miami schedule will now include a second U.S. race. <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/03\/18\/formula-one-opens-new-season-while-trying-to-move-beyond-last-seasons-finish\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Last year<\/a> Formula One continues its cold shoulder towards American race series drivers with two more races in Las Vegas this year. Formula One does this for two reasons that are unique to Europe: Bureaucracy and chauvinism.<\/p>\n<p> IndyCar Migration <\/p>\n<p>Colton Herta, the American driver, had previously considered joining Formula One before the 2022 season. The second-generation driver was the youngest to win an IndyCar racing race. He is the son and daughter of IndyCar veteran. <a href=\"https:\/\/motorsports.nbcsports.com\/2019\/03\/24\/colton-herta-wins-inaugural-indycar-classic-at-cota-becomes-youngest-winner-in-series-history\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Capturing an event<\/a> Just before his 19th Birthday.<\/p>\n<p>Ironically, while Herta won his historic first IndyCar race at Austin&#8217;s Circuit of the Americas, Formula One would not let him participate in the annual F1 race held on the very same course \u2014 or on any other course. The issue was whether Herta had enough point to qualify for a qualifying race. &#8220;super license&#8221; This governs Formula One drivers.<\/p>\n<p>The controversy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsport.com\/f1\/news\/fia-considering-hertas-super-licence-credentials\/10360869\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">can get technical<\/a>However, it comes down to bias. Drivers earn points towards a &#8220;super license&#8221; Based on their finishes in other racing series during the last three years. The <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/FIA_Super_Licence\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">formula to award these points<\/a> Drivers who participate in Formula One feeder races are preferred to those who race in IndyCar or related American series.<\/p>\n<p>A fourth place finish in IndyCar would earn you the same points as a qualifying race for a &#8220;super license&#8221; (10) A fourth-place finish in any of the formula regional racing series around the world.
