It will be five years later than the planned closure of the nuclear plant. Democrats and environmentalists both have been a part of the Diablo Canyon Power plant&#8217;s operation since at least 2000. <a href=\"https:\/\/environmentalprogress.org\/big-news\/2018\/1\/11\/jerry-browns-secret-war-on-clean-energy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Push<\/a> Governor. After a string of blackouts this summer, Gavin Newsom&#8217;s administration (D.) has changed its course.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As California confronts a rapidly changing climate, extraordinary heat events and record energy demand are becoming increasingly ordinary,&#8221; Siva Gunda, vice-chair of the commission, stated in a statement. &#8220;The state needs to keep all options on the table to protect public health and safety.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Newsom-appointed commissioners represent the latest California officials to be elected. <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/democrats\/fact-check-gavin-newsom-says-californias-rainstorms-are-proof-that-the-climate-crisis-is-real\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">It is a baseless claim<\/a> The state&#8217;s extreme weather events are more frequent because of climate change. After a severe heat wave, California Democrats often repeated this talking point. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/09\/07\/california-avoids-widespread-rolling-blackouts-as-heat-strains-grid.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rolling blackouts<\/a>. The plant still requires a federal license. Next, Diablo must secure a federal license. <a href=\"https:\/\/abc7.com\/diablo-canyon-nuclear-power-plant-reactor\/12819275\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Approval <\/a>To maintain operations, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission provides assistance.
