She challenged a court order to do so. <\/p>\n<p>A U.S. District Court denied Benson\u2019s August request to be exonerated <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/08\/26\/judge-denies-michigan-secretary-of-states-motion-to-dismiss-lawsuit-removing-26000-dead-registrants-from-voter-rolls\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">dismiss a lawsuit<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/publicinterestlegal.org\/press\/breaking-pilf-sues-michigan-secretary-of-state-for-failing-to-remove-deceased-registrants-from-their-voter-rolls\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Filled<\/a> The Public Interest Legal Foundation (PILF), a conservative firm that is committed to electoral integrity, informed Benson of deceased registrants it found on Michigan&#8217;s voter list and her obligation to remove them. The group notified Benson about deceased registrants that it found on Michigan&#8217;s voting lists in the fall of 2020 and her obligation under the National Voter Registration Act to remove them. &#8220;a reasonable effort to remove the names of ineligible voters from the official lists of eligible voters.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>Benson failed to remove the ineligible registrations despite appearing to have violated the law. The ongoing lawsuit brought by PILF seeks to compel Benson&#8217;s removal of nearly 26,000 voters from Michigan&#8217;s rolls. As The Federalist previously reported <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/08\/26\/judge-denies-michigan-secretary-of-states-motion-to-dismiss-lawsuit-removing-26000-dead-registrants-from-voter-rolls\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a>: <\/p>\n<p>PILF&#8217;s own analysis shows that 23663 registrants died within five years of each other, while 17,479 registrants had been dead for at most a decade. [and] 3.956 registrants died within the last 20 years.<\/p>\n<p>PILF bought Michigan&#8217;s voter rolls and hired a data analyst expert to compare the names with social security records and other public documentation.<\/p>\n<p>According to records provided to The Federalist from PILF, Pauline Schmainda who was born in 1908 but died in 1990 is still on Michigan&#8217;s voters lists. Since her death, eight presidential elections and many more federal elections took place. You would think she was dead. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newspapers.com\/image\/100839104\/?terms=Pauline&#038;match=1&#038;article=21bbeeda-189f-4c80-a04b-79a50c0f0ab0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Obituary<\/a> The Detroit Free Press would have made her ineligible to vote in Michigan&#8217;s elections. But Benson says otherwise.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newspapers.com\/image\/99401738\/?article=dd65150b-b3be-4e9e-8b31-8fc8a26c0b62&#038;focus=0.8813547,0.4977735,0.98898476,0.5512192&#038;xid=3355\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Mary Stislicki<\/a>Another name on the state&#8217;s electoral rolls is that of, who was born 1913 and died 1997. If she were still alive, she would have been 109.<\/p>\n<p>Mary Augustyniak, another deceased voter, is still on Michigan&#8217;s rolls. Augustyniak, who was born in 1916, would be 107 today if she had not died. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newspapers.com\/image\/100206135\/?terms=Augustyniak&#038;match=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">1998: Died<\/a> \u2014 the year then-President Bill Clinton&#8217;s impeachment began. <\/p>\n<p>These are just three of the thousands of voters PILF has identified as deceased on Michigan&#8217;s current voter list. They have yet to be removed despite being dead for numerous presidential and federal elections.
