According to reports, many college students supported the policy protested at The Supreme Court on Monday night and Tuesday morning.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I really, really care about student debt, not even just for myself,&#8221; Amanda Smitley (20 years old), a PennWest California sophomore, was equipped with an umbrella, and an aluminum blanket. She said that she had been in an accident. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2023\/02\/28\/supreme-court-student-loan-borrowers-praise-biden-plan.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Interview<\/a> CNBC. &#8220;I want to live in a world where my future students and maybe future kids won&#8217;t have to worry about getting into thousands in debt just because they want to further their education.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>John Runningen (22 years old) owes $5,000 on his Minnesota State Community and Technical College education. He added that the debt has created financial problems. &#8220;It&#8217;s stopped me from getting a vehicle, from moving out of my parents&#8217; house and helping my parents with the stress of their bills,&#8221; He told CNBC. &#8220;To some people it might not seem like a lot of money, but for rural communities or those that are poverty-stricken, it&#8217;ll be the difference between me being able to give my family food or able to afford an electricity bill.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In two cases, the justices heard arguments against the student loan cancellation policy. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/federal-judge-dismisses-republican-led-challenge-to-biden-student-debt-bailout\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">One<\/a> Submitted by six Republican attorneys general. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/shifting-the-burden-to-taxpayers-biden-slammed-with-lawsuit-against-student-loan-power-grab\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Another<\/a> The Job Creators Network Foundation supports the policy. The Job Creators Foundation Foundation is backing the latter entity. It claims the policy violates the Notice-and-Comment processes required by the Administrative Procedure Act. EPA&#8217;s Supreme Court opinion, which was also cited by them. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/supreme-court-rules-against-bidens-epa-says-agency-does-not-have-authority-to-regulate-carbon-dioxide-emissions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/a> Federal agencies cannot assert &#8220;highly consequential power beyond what Congress could reasonably be understood to have granted.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Left-wing legislators such as Senator Bernie Sanders, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D\u2013MA), and Rep. Ilhanomar spoke to the protesters gathered at The Supreme Court on Tuesday. &#8220;This is a righteous fight,&#8221; Warren stated to the crowd that, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/courts\/protesters-flock-supreme-court-support-biden-student-loan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Report<\/a> From the Washington Examiner. &#8220;And we cannot let a Supreme Court that is an extremist court take away the opportunity for millions of Americans to have a little racial justice, a little economic justice, a little opportunity to build more secure futures going forward.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Skeptics of the Biden administration\u2019s student loan policy claim that the total cost of debt cancellation could exceed $400 billion according to an analysis. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbo.gov\/system\/files\/2022-09\/58494-Student-Loans.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Estimate<\/a> From the Congressional Budget Office. Another <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brookings.edu\/research\/student-loan-forgiveness-is-regressive-whether-measured-by-income-education-or-wealth\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Report<\/a> Brookings Institution found that three-quarters of student debt is owed to the richest quintile. Less than one-tenth of student debt is owed to the bottom quintile.
