Chinese wet markets, you\u2019re off the hook. Let\u2019s order a round of pangolin poppers for the table. I love a nice plate of wet apps.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow, if like me, you\u2019re wondering why the Department of Energy is the one making this judgment, it\u2019s because that agency \u201coversees a network of U.S. national laboratories, some of which conduct advanced biological research,\u201d Colbert said, quoting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/covid-origin-china-lab-leak-807b7b0a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Wall Street Journal<\/a>, neglecting to add that the Journal prefaced that comment by writing that the Department \u201chas considerable scientific expertise.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo! No! Bad Energy Department. No bio-labs until you finish building your electric car-charging stations. What do we do?\u201d Stewart fired back. \u201cOh, you know who we could ask? The Wuhan Novel Respiratory Coronavirus Lab. The disease is the same name as the lab. That\u2019s just a little too weird, don\u2019t you think? And then the actual scientists are like, \u2018How did this?\u2019 So wait a minute, you work at the Wuhan Respiratory Coronavirus Lab. How did this happen? And they\u2019re like, \u2018A pangolin kissed a turtle?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOh, my God, there\u2019s been an outbreak of chocolatey goodness near Hershey, Pennsylvania. What do you think happened?\u201d Stewart continued. \u201cLike, \u2018Oh, I don\u2019t know, maybe a steam shovel mated with a cocoa bean?\u2019 Or it\u2019s the f***ing chocolate factory!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt could be possible, you could be right,\u201d Colbert said, before trying to rebut Stewart by saying, \u201cIt could be possible they have the lab in Wuhan to study the novel coronavirus diseases because in Wuhan there are a lot of novel coronavirus diseases because of the bat population.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI understand, It\u2019s the local specialty,\u201d Stewart replied. \u201cAnd it\u2019s the only place to find bats. You won\u2019t find bats anywhere else. Oh, wait. Austin, Texas has thousands of \u2018em that fly out of a cave every night. Every night at dusk.
