Josh Hawley (R-MO), who led the charge to pass legislation banning TikTok from government devices, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2023\/01\/27\/josh-hawley-demands-biden-admin-expedite-implementation-of-tiktok-ban-on-government-devices\/\">Requirements<\/a> that\u00a0Biden&#8217;s Office of Management and Budget (OMB) expedite the law&#8217;s implementation.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p class=\"text__text__1FZLe text__dark-grey__3Ml43 text__regular__2N1Xr text__large__nEccO body__full_width__ekUdw body__large_body__FV5_X article-body__element__2p5pI\">After the legislation\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/12\/23\/house-passes-1-7-trillion-omnibus-9-republican-votes\/\">Passed<\/a> The administration had to wait 60 days last year.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/senate-bill\/1143\/text\">enact<\/a> the law after there had been growing national security concerns\u00a0over what data the Chinese social media app collects and who is able to access the data.<\/p>\n<p class=\"a8d-pre\">CBS News, for instance, noted that &#8220;TikTok&#8217;s Chinese parent company ByteDance could give access to user data to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).&#8221;\u00a0Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco also said earlier this month that CCP\u00a0requires companies doing business there to turn over the keys to their data.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>&#8220;The Chinese government is not just hacking to gather our data\u2026If a company is operating in China and is collecting your data, it is a good bet that the Chinese government is accessing it,&#8221;\u00a0Monaco spoke. She also\u00a0predicted that &#8220;The data obtained today could be used in new and frightening ways tomorrow.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the directive\u00a0also requires that within 90 days, agencies must address any use of the Chinese social media app by IT vendors through contracts, and within 120 days, agencies will have to include a new prohibition on TikTok in all new solicitations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text__text__1FZLe text__dark-grey__3Ml43 text__regular__2N1Xr text__large__nEccO body__full_width__ekUdw body__large_body__FV5_X article-body__element__2p5pI\">Ultimately, the\u00a0directive,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.scribd.com\/document\/628353719\/M-23-13-No-TikTok-on-Government-Devices-Implementation-Guidance-Final\">ordered<\/a> by Congress late last year, came after a bipartisan push from U.S. Democrat and Republican\u00a0public officials for\u00a0action against the\u00a0Chinese social media app over\u00a0concerns that it could surveil Americans. Additionally, some lawmakers think banning TikTok on government devices\u00a0does not go far enough and would prefer a nationwide ban\u00a0on all devices.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text__text__1FZLe text__dark-grey__3Ml43 text__regular__2N1Xr text__large__nEccO body__full_width__ekUdw body__large_body__FV5_X article-body__element__2p5pI\">Canada has taken similar actions to the U.S. in recent weeks. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2023\/02\/27\/canada-follows-u-s-banning-tiktok-state-devices-security-concerns\/\">Cite<\/a> An\u00a0&#8220;unacceptable level of risk to privacy and security,&#8221; and the\u00a0European Union, which also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/technology\/eu-commission-staff-told-remove-tiktok-phones-eu-industry-chief-says-2023-02-23\/\">Cite<\/a> Security concerns<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p class=\"text__text__1FZLe text__dark-grey__3Ml43 text__regular__2N1Xr text__large__nEccO body__full_width__ekUdw body__large_body__FV5_X article-body__element__2p5pI\">Additionally, independent from the federal government, numerous governors have announced that their states would ban TikTok from\u00a0state government devices over the last year \u2014 especially in the second half of 2022 \u2014 including\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/tech\/2023\/01\/09\/ohio-joins-list-states-banning-tiktok-government-devices-security-concerns\/\">Ohio<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/12\/15\/nancy-pelosi-not-commit-voting-bill-banning-tiktok-u-s-government-devices\/\">Georgia<\/a>,\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/archive.ph\/XdqsR#selection-761.16-761.47\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">Montana<\/a>Alabama, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/12\/14\/iowa-gov-kim-reynolds-bans-tiktok-state-devices-security-concerns\/\">Iowa<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text__text__1FZLe text__dark-grey__3Ml43 text__regular__2N1Xr text__large__nEccO body__full_width__ekUdw body__large_body__FV5_X article-body__element__2p5pI\">Brooke Oberwetter, TikTok spokesperson, responded to Monday&#8217;s White House directive by stating that the ban was in effect. &#8220;political theater&#8221;:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"text__text__1FZLe text__dark-grey__3Ml43 text__regular__2N1Xr text__large__nEccO body__full_width__ekUdw body__large_body__FV5_X article-body__element__2p5pI\">Deciding to ban TikTok on federal devices was done without deliberation. This approach unfortunately has been used by other world governments as a template. These bans can be seen as political theater.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>China also condemned the U.S.&#8217;s TikTok ban Tuesday morning.
