China has always supported and participated in global science-based origins-tracing,&#8221; Mao <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fmprc.gov.cn\/mfa_eng\/xwfw_665399\/s2510_665401\/2511_665403\/202302\/t20230227_11032204.html\"><\/a> Answering a question about the Department of Energy report. &#8220;&#8216;A laboratory origin of the pandemic was considered to be extremely unlikely&#8217; is a science-based, authoritative conclusion reached by the experts of the W.H.O.-China joint mission after field trips to the lab in Wuhan and in-depth communication with researchers.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>&#8220;It was accurately recorded in the mission&#8217;s report and has received extensive recognition from the international community,&#8221; She stated.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Certain parties should stop rehashing the \u2018lab leak&#8217; narrative, stop smearing China and stop politicizing origins-tracing,&#8221; Mao concluded.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<em>Wall Street Journal<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2023\/02\/26\/report-lab-leak-most-likely-source-of-global-coronavirus-pandemic\/\">Claim<\/a> To obtain a classified report from the Department of Energy on Sunday, in which they concluded that a water leak at the Wuhan Institute of Virology was likely to be the cause of the pandemic. This laboratory is known to have experimented with bat coronaviruses just before the outbreak. The Department of Energy reached this conclusion after reviewing the report. &#8220;low confidence,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/asia\/2021\/01\/29\/w-h-o-team-its-still-worth-visiting-wuhan-market-after-china-destroyed-evidence\/\">Given<\/a> Access to the WIV was not possible and critical evidence was destroyed by the Chinese government.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Energy Department now joins the Federal Bureau of Investigation in saying the virus likely spread via a mishap at a Chinese laboratory,&#8221; The\u00a0<em>Journal<\/em> reported. &#8220;Four other agencies, along with a national intelligence panel, still judge that it was likely the result of a natural transmission, and two are undecided.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"a8d-pre\">The Energy Department reached its verdict &#8220;low confidence,&#8221; According to those who read the classified report.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>The U.S. government has previously made statements that indicated an interest in investigating WIV, including the publication of a factsheet by the State Department on January 20, 2121. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/asia\/2021\/05\/24\/report-leaked-documents-show-mystery-disease-outbreak-wuhan-lab-2019\/\">revealing<\/a> that Washington had reason to believe multiple workers at the facility had been hospitalized with unknown illnesses in November 2019. The <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20210311043958\/https:\/\/ge.usembassy.gov\/fact-sheet-activity-at-the-wuhan-institute-of-virology\/\">fact sheet<\/a>, since <a href=\"https:\/\/ge.usembassy.gov\/fact-sheet-activity-at-the-wuhan-institute-of-virology\/\">deleted<\/a> from State Department pages after the inauguration of President Joe Biden, asserted that Washington had &#8220;reason to believe that several researchers inside the WIV became sick in autumn 2019, before the first identified case of the outbreak, with symptoms consistent with both [Wuhan coronavirus] and common seasonal illnesses.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Starting in at least 2016 \u2013 and with no indication of a stop prior to the [coronavirus] outbreak \u2013 WIV researchers conducted experiments involving RaTG13, the bat coronavirus identified by the WIV in January 2020 as its closest sample to SARS-CoV-2 (96.2% similar),&#8221; the fact sheet read. &#8220;The WIV has a published record of conducting \u2018gain-of-function&#8217; research to engineer chimeric viruses. But the WIV has not been transparent or consistent about its record of studying viruses most similar to the [Wuhan coronavirus], including \u2018RaTG13,&#8217; which it sampled from a cave in Yunnan Province in 2013 after several miners died of SARS-like illness.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mao&#8217;s claim that the &#8220;science-based, authoritative conclusion&#8221; on the beginning of the pandemic was that a laboratory leak was unlikely is a reference to a 2021 report by the World Health Organization (W.H.O.) that Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus himself as criticized as insufficient. The report, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/science\/2021\/03\/30\/w-h-o-report-little-evidence-coronavirus-came-animals-china-may-not-origin\/\">published<\/a> in March 2021, was a result of a visit to Wuhan by W.H.O. investigators. Reports at the time revealed that Chinese Communist Party officials did not give the investigators any freedom to research independently, gave them very little time at the WIV, and had already destroyed so much evidence in the past year since the pandemic began that the visit yielded little useful information.<\/p>\n<p>The resulting report from the W.H.O. Wuhan visit concluded that a leak at the WIV was an &#8220;unlikely&#8221; origin story for the virus, though it did not detail why the researchers arrived at that conclusion. The report concluded instead that the likeliest part to infecting humans was that the animal in which the virus first originated infected a third-party animal, which then infected humans.
