He was previously charged with the murders of his son and wife, as well as numerous financial crimes.<\/p>\n<p>Although it is not clear what the new misdemeanor charge refers to, records from Colleton County Sheriff&#8217;s Office indicate that Murdaugh was taken into custody on February 24, 2019. Murdaugh was finished giving evidence at his own trial on February 24, according to WCIV. <a href=\"https:\/\/katu.com\/news\/nation-world\/alex-murdaugh-charged-with-new-misdemeanor-colleton-county-sheriffs-office\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Murdaugh spent nearly two days testifying in his own defense at his trial, where he faces murder charges for allegedly killing his wife, Maggie, and youngest son, Paul \u2013 charges Murdaugh vehemently denies.<\/p>\n<p>After calling four witnesses (including a crime scene analyst), the defense will be expected to relax Monday afternoon. Fox News reports that they have called the remaining witnesses. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/alex-murdaughs-defense-team-rest-monday-shocking-admission-stand\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>. The Assistant Attorney General CreightonWaters is the prosecutor in this case. He is expected to call one to two rebuttal witnesses and close arguments as soon as Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Murdaugh <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/alex-murdaugh-testified-in-his-own-defense-and-immediately-admitted-to-lying\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Stand.<\/a> Thursday and Friday, he immediately admitted that he had been lying for many years about whereabouts the day his wife was and his son were killed.<\/p>\n<p>Already, the prosecution had argued that Murdaugh lied to say he didn&#8217;t go to the dog kennels the day his wife was killed and his son was murdered. Creighton Waters, the prosecutor, previously indicated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/cell-phone-evidence-puts-disgraced-attorney-alex-murdaugh-at-scene-of-family-murder-prosecutors-say\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">To cell phone evidence<\/a>\u00a0Paul had taken the video from his phone just five minutes before Murdaugh was shot and killed. Paul had taken a video of one of the dogs and sent it to a friend. Prosecutors claim Murdaugh&#8217;s voice is heard in the background. Murdaugh claims he wasn\u2019t there that night. Prosecutors say Murdaugh shot his son and wife to death at 8:49 p.m. just minutes after the video was recorded.<\/p>\n<p>Murdaugh took to the stand on Thursday. His defense attorneys asked him whether he had lied with police about whereabouts that night. Murdaugh answered yes.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I lied about being down there, and I&#8217;m so sorry that I did,&#8221; Murdaugh claimed,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/crime\/alex-murdaugh-admits-lying-police-murders-wife-son\/\">People Magazine<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><b data-stringify-type=\"bold\"><a class=\"c-link c-link--focus-visible\" href=\"https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-stringify-link=\"https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp\" data-sk=\"tooltip_parent\" aria-describedby=\"sk-tooltip-112243\">CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILY WIRE APP<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Murdaugh maintained his innocence in murdering his wife and son. &#8220;Mags&#8221;  &#8220;Paul Paul.&#8221; The disgraced South Carolina attorney stated during his testimony that his alleged drug dependence made him a better person. &#8220;paranoid,&#8221; Hence, he lied.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As my addiction evolved over time I would get in these situations or circumstances where I would get paranoid,&#8221; Murdaugh testified. &#8220;I&#8217;m sorry I lied.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Murdaugh also stated that Paul, his son, was being threatened by the government over his involvement with the 2019 boat accident that resulted in Mallory Beach&#8217;s death at age 19. Paul was charged with one count of boating while under the influence of alcohol causing death and two counts causing serious bodily injury.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Paul got the most vile threats \u2014 the stuff that was on social media \u2014 you couldn&#8217;t believe it,&#8221; Murdaugh testified.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/crime\/alex-murdaugh-claims-sons-killer-angry-fatal-2019-boat-crash-threats\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">According to People<\/a>. &#8220;You couldn&#8217;t believe it. It was so over the top, truthfully we didn&#8217;t think anything about it, it was so crazy. People talking about what he was going to get \u2026 We disregarded it.
