The law\u2014and its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/health-canada\/services\/medical-assistance-dying\/annual-report-2021.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">31,000+ casualties<\/a>, or a shocking 3.3 percent of all 2021 Canadian deaths\u2014is already creepy enough, but now it&#8217;s taking an even darker turn.<\/p>\n<p>Canada is considering allowing kids to end their lives\u2014without the consent of their parents. Per <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-11786697\/Canada-steps-closer-euthanizing-CHILDREN-panel-says-sick-kids-suicide-rights.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>DailyMail<\/em><\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>In its <a href=\"https:\/\/parl.ca\/Content\/Committee\/441\/AMAD\/Reports\/RP12234766\/amadrp02\/amadrp02-e.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">long-awaited report<\/a>, the Special Joint Committee on Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) recommended that \u2018mature minors&#8217; whose deaths were \u2018reasonably foreseeable&#8217; could access assisted suicide, even without parental consent.<\/p>\n<p><span>The House of Commons will debate the report and 23 of its recommendations in the coming months. It could even prompt revisions.\u00a0<\/span>Canada<span>\u2018s assisted dying laws as soon as this year.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Does Canada seem a little strange?<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s start with what exactly is a? &#8220;mature minor?&#8221; Are there any tests they need to pass in order to prove their wisdom and knowledge? Will it be a subjective decision of a doctor to make such a determination?<\/p>\n<p>However, not all Canadians are aboard:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Today, the HoC received the report from the MAID Committee.<\/p>\n<p>The report recommends recklessly expanding MAID. <\/p>\n<p>It even recommends MAID to minors.<\/p>\n<p>I submitted the CPC disapproval report. Conservatives will oppose this expansion of Trudeau&#8217;s already catastrophic MAID regime. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/WzcOOiQwOT\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pic.twitter.com\/WzcOOiQwOT<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Michael Cooper, MP (@Cooper4SAE) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Cooper4SAE\/status\/1626025377121304576?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">February 16, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The Committee has\u2014for now at least\u2014decided <strong>Not<\/strong> It is recommended that minors with mental disorders receive assistance to end their lives. MAiD would not be applicable to patients with severe physical illnesses.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Ultimately, members agreed that children with terminal illnesses, most likely aged between 14 and 17, could be influenced by many factors and that \u2018eligibility for MAiD should not be denied on the basis of age alone&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>In their 138-page report, members said the procedure \u2014 typically a lethal injection administered by a doctor \u2014 should be available to \u2018mature minors \u2026 whose natural death is reasonably foreseeable.&#8217;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Why do I say that they haven\u2019t recommended MAiD to minors with mental disorders? &#8220;for now&#8221; Because they will most likely in the future.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The Justice Minister is a proud display of his arrogance. He is so keen to increase MAID for people with mental illness, that he believes 32 of Canada\u2019s most prominent law professors are wrong. He&#8217;s the only one who can prove that. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/2c0DCd4TbL\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pic.twitter.com\/2c0DCd4TbL<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Rob Moore (@RobMoore_CPC) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RobMoore_CPC\/status\/1625937394867269636?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">February 15, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>It would be inaccurate to call the procedure &#8220;injection&#8221; since it is administered by a doctor. &#8220;suicide.&#8221; The correct description would then be &#8220;homicide.&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.britannica.com\/topic\/homicide\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brittanica<\/a> Homicide can be defined as follows:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>homicide<\/strong>, the killing of one\u00a0human being by another.\u00a0<em>Homicide<\/em>\u00a0is a general term and may refer to a noncriminal act as well as the criminal act of\u00a0murder.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Amy Hasbrouck is a board member for the anti-MAiD group <a href=\"https:\/\/notdeadyet.org\/category\/amy-hasbrouck\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Still alive<\/a>The obvious is that teens&#8217; brains aren\u2019t developed enough to make an existential decision such as ending their lives.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>It&#8217;s terrible, I think.<\/p>\n<p>Teenagers cannot decide whether or not to commit suicide. A teenager with a disability who is constantly told how miserable their life is will likely be depressed. They&#8217;ll want to commit suicide.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Today, the AMAD Committee released their report. I was in tears as I drove home. Suicide contagion infects my country. They are calling for MAID to mature minors. It may not be too far away for a 16-year old depressed, anorexic, orbulimic like me to have access to MAID. Some people have lived longer lives than expected due to incurable or fatal diseases. Our veterinarian advised us to put our beloved dog down. She would be in severe pain and she had only days left to live. Instead, she walked around happily for another year before finally passing peacefully. I am not comparing people with dogs. I am just pointing out the fact that sometimes things don&#8217;t work out as expected.<\/li>\n<li>A second concern is that a teenager could select the MAiD option even if they don&#8217;t have parental consent. Imagine your child receiving a lethal injection, and being told by a doctor that they are now dead. Yes, that&#8217;s a dark and terrible thought\u2014but it&#8217;s exactly what could happen if this is approved.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I can&#8217;t even imagine living with an incurable fatal disease, especially in my youth, and my heart goes out if anyone receives such a prognosis.<\/p>\n<p>However, it is not appropriate for the state to help teens kill themselves.
