It has been years now of the media \u2013 locally in Florida and on the national level \u2013 working in concert to deride DeSantis, almost as a default setting. Throughout the pandemic, DeSantis was mocked.\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bing.com\/ck\/a?!&#038;&#038;p=00373f98a40783beJmltdHM9MTY3NzE5NjgwMCZpZ3VpZD0xMGI1NmI0Yi01YmQyLTZlOGEtMTBkZi03YWExNWE2YzZmNGYmaW5zaWQ9NTM5NA&#038;ptn=3&#038;hsh=3&#038;fclid=10b56b4b-5bd2-6e8a-10df-7aa15a6c6f4f&#038;psq=redstate+60+minutes+desantis&#038;u=a1aHR0cHM6Ly90b3duaGFsbC5jb20vdGlwc2hlZXQvZ3V5YmVuc29uLzIwMjEvMDQvMDgvdmlkZW8tZGVzYW50aXMtZGVzdHJveXMtNjAtbWludXRlcy1uMjU4NzU2NA&#038;ntb=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s1\">&#8220;60 Minutes&#8221; Did a great job<\/span><\/a><span>One so flawed that it was debunked before it could air. Collectively, the media chose to lie about his legislation concerning schools and parents. All outlets agreed. &#8220;Don&#8217;t Say Gay&#8221; It was approved as a description of the bill.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span>As the next presidential election season approaches, the possibility of a DeSantis-led campaign is increasing. This has led to more accusations and less accountability from media. This is the latest round of inaccuracies, which could be described as &#8220;misinformation&#8221; The governor&#8217;s education policies in the state are something that should concern anyone who is visiting from abroad. Two major prevarications have been made. Books are being banned, while black history is being omitted from schools.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span>This is easy to forget. The first point is easily dismissed. This canard makes for a good shorthand accusation, so it is allowed to stay in the media.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span>The next one, about the blocking black history, is being totally contorted. Recently, I explained.\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/redstate.com\/bradslager\/2023\/02\/20\/addressing-the-lie-florida-schools-and-ron-desantis-have-blocked-the-teaching-of-slavery-n705964\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s1\">How it isn&#8217;t only wrong to suggest<\/span><\/a><span>\u00a0DeSantis would like to get rid of black history teachings. This is 180 degrees out-of-phase, since there are laws that dictate the topics should be taught in schools. DeSantis has signed these laws in recent times. We now come to Andrea Mitchell and NBC News.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span>The not-at-all-past-her-prime Mitchell\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/townhall.com\/columnists\/bradslager\/2023\/02\/21\/no-outcry-when-andrea-mitchell-blatantly-lies-about-desantis-n2619809\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s1\">Recently, I sat down with Kamala Harris<\/span><\/a><span>\u00a0Interview with the vice president of MSNBC. Ms. Mitchell was wildly incorrect in her premise and threw it around during the meeting.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li5\"><span class=\"s2\">&#8220;<em>What does Governor DeSantis not know about black history and the black experience when he says that slavery and the aftermath of slavery should not be taught to Florida school children<\/em>?&#8221;<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"row mb-3\">\n<div class=\"col\">\n<h4 class=\"pc\">Recommendation<\/h4>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span>This level of deceit is unjustifiable. It is easy to find the laws, and the story is often in the news. The details of the laws would be revealed by the smallest amount of research. The controversy surrounding the AP Black History issues\u00a0<\/span><em>New\u00a0<\/em><span>Teaching materials that did not meet the anti-CRT legislation&#8217;s standards. Black history is not being blocked by excluding a curriculum that included queer studies or had current political activism.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span>Andrea Mitchell&#8217;s false claim was corrected by the DeSantis communications staff. Bryan Griffin, DeSantis Press Secretary, was asked by me if they had spoken to NBC News regarding this exact segment and if they received any comment. &#8220;<\/span><span class=\"s3\">We did call the network,&#8221;\u00a0Griffin stated: &#8220;after she first made the claim, and nothing came of it.&#8221;<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span>After that silence, DeSantis&#8217; team reached out to management at the cable news channel as well as the network offices. Mitchell appeared to have made it to the broadcast later. &#8220;clarify&#8221; Her comments. Jeremy Redfern, DeSantis Deputy Secretary of Press, explained why this postscript was insufficient.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Yet again\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mitchellreports?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">@mitchellreports<\/a> Is &#8220;imprecise&#8221; She uses unnamed characters in her description &#8220;historians and teachers.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Florida law prohibits the teaching of slavery or its aftermath. We know that &#8220;queer studies&#8221; Jim Crow has nothing to do.<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/tHKJW30L9l\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/t.co\/tHKJW30L9l<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/h6l1RDsC4f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pic.twitter.com\/h6l1RDsC4f<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Jeremy Redfern (@JeremyRedfernFL) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JeremyRedfernFL\/status\/1628462828163317761?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">February 22, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span class=\"s4\">Griffin saw the piece and said it was his. &#8220;<\/span><span class=\"s2\">a typical non-apology response that doubles down on her lie.&#8221; Redfern explained everything to me. &#8220;Our office did our due diligence and elevated this further up the chain in MSNBC and NBC. We were told that this was being sent to &#8216;standards,&#8217; and all that appears to have come out of &#8216;standards&#8217; was the non-apology.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span>Griffin was able to make a bold statement about the governor&#8217;s communications office. They would cut off any future engagements with NBC News. Griffin, Redfern, as well as Christina Pushaw, the previous press secretary, have all shared many instances where the press behaved in bad faith with their team. This approach by his office seems to be not only justifiable, but essential at this stage. The governor has\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/magazine\/2022\/07\/28\/republican-candidates-ice-out-the-press-00048345\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s1\">Already angered some journalists<\/span><\/a><span>\u00a0When he made it a habit not to give interviews to the biased press outlets.<\/span><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>NBC can&#8217;t complain about the latest stance taken by the governor&#8217;s offices. They have been shown \u2013 quite clearly \u2013 to be trafficking in bold falsehoods and taking little effort to correct the record. The network can&#8217;t argue that this was an unreasonable decision. DeSantis&#8217; office has little to no risk of leaving NBC. What could happen? What might happen?
