Critics have reacted furiously. &#8220;horrible.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A Canadian parliamentary commission recommended that this month &#8220;mature minors&#8221; should be able to euthanize themselves, even without parental consent, through\u00a0Canada&#8217;s\u00a0Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) program if their deaths are &#8220;reasonably foreseeable.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Canada&#8217;s government ought to &#8220;amend the eligibility criteria for MAID set out in the Criminal Code to include minors deemed to have the requisite decision-making capacity upon assessment,&#8221;\u00a0The long-awaited announcement <a href=\"https:\/\/parl.ca\/Content\/Committee\/441\/AMAD\/Reports\/RP12234766\/amadrp02\/amadrp02-e.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Report<\/a>\u00a0The Special Joint Committee on MAiD.<\/p>\n<p>Parents must be involved in the assessment of their child&#8217;s assisted death, but they are not required to do so. &#8220;will of the minor&#8221; Will &#8220;ultimately take priority,&#8221; This report is highly recommended.<\/p>\n<p>The House of Commons is expected to discuss the report in the coming months.<\/p>\n<p>This law could be amended to include disabled and terminally ill children as early as next year.<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime critics continue to skewer the proposal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">&#8220;I think it&#8217;s horrible,&#8221; Amy Hasbrouck from the anti-MAiD organization Not Dead Yet <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-11786697\/Canada-steps-closer-euthanizing-CHILDREN-panel-says-sick-kids-suicide-rights.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Submitted<\/a> The Daily Mail<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILY WIRE APP<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">&#8220;Teenagers are not in a good position to judge whether to commit suicide or not,&#8221; She added. &#8220;Any teenagers with a disability, who&#8217;s constantly told their life is useless and pitiful, will be depressed, and of course they&#8217;re going to want to die.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Another advocate stated that Canada was on the a &#8220;slippery slope&#8221; Since 2016, when the law went into effect, assisted suicide has increased to an alarming extent.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We said we were going to have safeguards and guardrails, but the next government can simply open it up further by making a decision \u2014 and that&#8217;s exactly what&#8217;s happening,&#8221; Alex Schadenberg is the executive director of Euthanasia Prevention Coalition.<\/p>\n<p>Around 10,000 adults <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/health-canada\/services\/medical-assistance-dying\/annual-report-2021.html#table_3.1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">End<\/a> According to Canada\u2019s health department, MAiD will help save their lives in 2021. This number has increased every year since 2016, when the program was used to save just over 1,000 lives.<\/p>\n<p>Conservative committee members disapproved of the report and stated that they oppose the idea of minors being allowed the right to make decisions about their deaths. One of the most important issues is the &#8220;decision-making capacity&#8221; They pointed out that children with a weak brain are more likely to be unable to recognize the signs of maturity.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;So long as these issues remain unresolved, it would be irresponsible for the Liberal government to move ahead with any expansion of MAID for mature minors,&#8221; Conservative members of the panel stated. &#8220;Minors are a uniquely vulnerable group, having regard for their level of cognitive development.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Witnesses also testified before the committee, pointing out that children are easily influenced and subject to external pressure. Witnesses pointed out that children have the right to stop their own treatment. This can lead to them dying earlier.<\/p>\n<p>A Canadian man was born in November. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/canadian-man-changes-mind-about-assisted-suicide-after-good-samaritans-step-in\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Go viral<\/a> online when he said he was considering\u00a0committing assisted suicide through MAiD because he feared he would soon be homeless.\u00a0The 54-year-old suffers from chronic, agonizing back pain after an accident that occurred several years ago.<\/p>\n<p>After strangers were moved by his story, they donated over $60,000 to his aid. He then changed his mind.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m a different person,&#8221; He told a Canadian outlet.\u00a0&#8220;The first time we spoke, I had nothing but darkness, misery, stress and hopelessness. Now I have all the opposite of those things.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><em>National Suicide Prevention Lifeline offers a free, confidential hotline that can be accessed by anyone in distress or who needs help.
