After months of failed diplomacy, Ukraine’s morning silence was disrupted by Russian bombardment and bombing.

Russian President Vladimir Putin initiated a sinister “special military operation” To “demilitarize” Ukraine, but it allegedly does not occupy former Soviet state.

The West’s power sprung to life almost immediately.

The Biden administration promised its unflinching support to Ukraine and inundated the country with emergency assistance. Although Ukraine managed to fend off a Russian takeover with thousands of deaths and billions of dollars of U.S. assistance, Russia still controls large parts of the country.

It wasn’t long ago that the U.S. Extricated A two-decade conflict in Middle East has left the country in terrible shape. But President Biden appears ready to commit Americans to yet another war indefinitely.

“Freedom is priceless. It’s worth fighting for, for as long as it takes. And that’s how long we’re going to be with you, Mr. President. As long as it takes,” Biden promised This week, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky visited Kyiv unexpectedly.

“President Putin’s craven lust for land and power will fail,” Biden said. During his remarks, Biden called out the Russian leader 10 times.

The Congress approved $113 billion in assistance to Ukraine in 2022. While not all the funds have been spent, they provide military, economic, humanitarian, and other assistance to Ukraine as well as its allies.

In its first three sessions, Congress approved $65.8 millionhttps://www.congress.gov/bill/117th-congress/house-bill/7691″>emergency Assistance Packages Last year, $47.3 billion More The 2023 Omnibus Appropriations package.

Around $67 billion goes to defense. The remaining $46 billion can be used for economic aid, refugee settlement, and general Ukrainian government assistance. Direct military assistance to Ukraine includes mainly military weapons, equipment and training supplies.

According to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), more than 75% will be spent before 2026.

Biden is the top of it all. promised Another half-a-billion dollars in military assistance to Ukraine was approved this week in Kyiv. Biden might have trouble getting Congress to approve additional aid, even though a new Republican majority controls the House.

Although other countries have sent aid to Ukraine as well, the U.S. has far outpaced them. The second most generous country, Britain, has sent Ukraine $8.8 billion to date. According To the Kiel Institute for the World Economy (German think tank).

War is always expensive. To put things in perspective, consider the U.S. spent $146 billion for humanitarian and military assistance to Afghanistan over the next 20 years, which was much more costly than sending soldiers.

John Sopko (Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction, SIGAR), warns that the U.S. will almost certainly abuse its aid to Ukraine. This oversight oversees U.S. spending on Afghanistan.

“When you spend so much money so quickly, with so little oversight, you’re going to have fraud, waste and abuse,” Sopko . “Massive amounts.”

Critics are concerned about American taxpayer dollars being sent to a Ukrainian government that is accused of corruption. The government of President Zelensky was busy making a mockery of his former rival in Ukraine, and bringing up treason allegations that were, some say, trumped-up. Zelensky fired almost a dozen high-ranking officials last month to stop a series of corruption scandals. This threatened to tarnish his already rosy reputation. Critics say that Zelensky has an authoritarian level of control over Ukraine’s media.

However, the 45 year-old ex-comedy actor has successfully recast him as a heroic underdog fighting for democracy against the West’s familiar bogeyman Russia. He has received a lot of U.S. support, which has helped to boost his public image.

His signature army green sweatsuit is a trademark of a wartime leader, and he’s seldom seen without it. Even at the special joint meeting in Congress in December Zelensky was present, his sweatsuit was still on. We urge you to Congress to keep the money coming.

Even his most loyal supporters sometimes find it annoying that he is so impatient about more emergency assistance. Biden eventually got tired of Zelensky. The president reportedly Zelensky was rebuked by the government during a June phone call when he requested more assistance. Many suspect Zelensky might be trying to drag America into the war. Claim Russia launched missiles onto the North Atlantic Treaty Organization’s (NATO) territory.

In the meantime, the death toll has risen.

In November, General Mark Milley (chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff) stated that more than 100,000 Ukrainian soldiers had been killed. However, it is not clear how many. Since Russia invaded Ukraine, at least 8,000 civilians were killed and almost 13,300 others injured. According The United Nations human rights officer cautioned that this number is likely to be much higher. The conflict has also led to the displacement of more than 8 million Ukrainians, leading to a refugee crisis on the continent. According To the U.N.
