Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) <a href=\"https:\/\/mobile.twitter.com\/JudiciaryDems\/status\/1628510873315688454\">announced<\/a>\u00a0that Garland will testify at 10 a.m. ET at a Senate hearing titled &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.judiciary.senate.gov\/meetings\/02\/22\/2023\/oversight-of-the-department-of-justice\">Oversight of the Department of Justice<\/a>.&#8221; Durbin will preside over the hearing. The hearing&#8217;s live stream will be available for the public to view <a href=\"https:\/\/www.judiciary.senate.gov\/meetings\/02\/22\/2023\/oversight-of-the-department-of-justice\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Republicans sitting on the Judiciary Committee will likely rain down scrutiny on Garland.<\/p>\n<p>Potential questions include Garland&#8217;s oversight of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/parents-say-theyve-been-harassed-stalked-and-doxed-for-criticizing-school-boards_4673736.html\">investigations<\/a> of parents who attend school board meetings, the FBI&#8217;s handling of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=site%3Atheepochtimes.com+hunter+biden&#038;rlz=1C1ONGR_enUS1000US1000&#038;oq=site%3Atheepochtimes.com+hunter+biden&#038;aqs=chrome.0.69i59j69i58.5612j0j4&#038;sourceid=chrome&#038;ie=UTF-8\">Hunter Biden<\/a>\u00a0laptop scandal, the FBI&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us-charges-11-pro-life-activists-for-alleged-violations-of-federal-law_4779541.html\">prosecution<\/a> of pro-life activists under the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act, and the FBI&#8217;s raids on the Mar-a-Lago property of former President Donald Trump, home of former VP Mike Pence, and President Joe Biden&#8217;s Delaware beach house. Republicans allege that some of the DOJ&#8217;s actions are acts of government weaponization.<\/p>\n<p>Garland most recently testified before the committee in October 2021, when lawmakers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.judiciary.senate.gov\/imo\/media\/doc\/QFR%20Responses%20-%20DOJ%20-%202021-10-27.pdf\">questioned<\/a> the FBI and DOJ&#8217;s handling of the Nassar investigation, the Durham probe, and concerns regarding Chinese espionage investigations, among others.<\/p>\n<p>Since then, lawmakers such as Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) have demanded that Garland testify before the upper chamber&#8217;s Judiciary Committee on a variety of issues.<\/p>\n<p>In July 2022,\u00a0Cruz asked Garland to testify before the Judiciary Committee and explain why the DOJ did not prosecute pro-abortion protesters who Cruz said sought to harass conservative-leaning Supreme Court justices, after the highest court <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/supreme-court-strikes-down-roe-v-wade-abortion-precedent_4555931.html\">overturned<\/a> Roe v. Wade, the 1973 Supreme Court ruling that legalized abortion.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Unfortunately, despite clear evidence that federal law was violated by mobs of protesters at the Justices&#8217; homes, the head of the Department of Justice, and chief law enforcement officer of the United States, flatly refused to enforce federal law,&#8221; Cruz wrote in the July 11 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cruz.senate.gov\/newsroom\/press-releases\/sen-cruz-calls-on-ag-garland-to-attend-dobbs-hearing-discuss-scotus-intimidation\">letter<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I want to know from Merrick Garland directly why Biden&#8217;s DOJ is arresting Catholic protestors like terrorists\u2014complete with SWAT-style tactics\u2014while letting actual terrorist acts like firebombings go unpunished,&#8221; Hawley <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HawleyMO\/status\/1574464836083355668\">said<\/a> in a statement in September 2022, referring to the FBI&#8217;s arrest of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/fbi-conducts-dawn-raid-on-home-of-catholic-pro-life-speaker_4753309.html\">Mark Houck<\/a>, a pro-life person who protested in front of an abortion clinic and whose home was raided by reportedly 20 to 25 FBI agents.<\/p>\n<p>Houck pushed a Planned Parenthood escort in what he contends was an act to defend his 12-year-old son from harassment.
