Biden&#8217;s administration claims that the derailment wouldn&#8217;t have happened if Trump had not repealed rules that would have required new electrical braking technology for trains transporting large amounts of hazardous materials.<\/p>\n<p>The Biden administration has so far failed to restore those rules, which wouldn&#8217;t have applied to the derailment train anyway.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Context: <\/strong>The White House is launching an offensive against Republican criticisms of its lack interest in the disaster. Andrew Bates, White House spokesperson <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2023\/02\/22\/white-house-blame-trump-gop-east-palestine-spill\/11322623002\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Requirements<\/a> On Wednesday, the Republicans offered their condolences to East Palestine residents &#8220;selling them out to rail industry lobbyists.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>However, the Biden administration has been absent most of the time during this crisis. The president surprised everyone by going to Ukraine instead of Ohio. Buttigieg, meanwhile, <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/biden-administration\/after-train-crash-nuked-ohio-town-with-toxic-chemicals-buttigieg-focuses-on-bigger-threat-white-construction-workers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">criticized<\/a> Construction workers are too white and have to be prioritized. &#8220;personal time&#8221; Throughout February, choose instead to <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JennieSTaer\/status\/1628190304284160001\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Get out of the way<\/a> Reporters questioned him about the crisis and his response.<\/p>\n<p>Buttigieg finally visited East Palestine Thursday, but only after Trump had visited the area the day before. The scandal-plagued transportation secretary <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SecretaryPete\/status\/1628561790148792320\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tweet<\/a> Wednesday, he claimed that his critics were trying to distract from the repealed braking regulations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Analysis:<\/strong> The Trump administration has scrapped electronic brake regulations for trains transporting large quantities of hazardous liquids. Jennifer Homendy, chairwoman of the National Transportation Safety Board, was however <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ntsb.gov\/about\/board\/Pages\/Jennifer-Homendy.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nominated<\/a> Biden, unanimously confirmed in the Senate, stated that the rule wouldn\u2019t have applied to the Norfolk Southern train which was stranded in East Palestine on February 3.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;PLEASE STOP SPREADING MISINFORMATION,&#8221; Homendy pleaded guilty in a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JenniferHomendy\/status\/1626379362189672451\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">February 16th tweet<\/a>\u00a0thread.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Some are saying the ECP (electronically controlled pneumatic) brake rule, if implemented, would&#8217;ve prevented this derailment. FALSE\u2014here&#8217;s why,&#8221; Homendy wrote. &#8220;The ECP braking rule would&#8217;ve applied ONLY to HIGH HAZARD FLAMMABLE TRAINS. The train that derailed in East Palestine was a MIXED FREIGHT TRAIN containing only 3 placarded Class 3 flammable liquids cars.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">The ECP braking rule would only have applied to HIGH HAZARD FLAMMABLE TRAINES.
