Each decision was accompanied by the majority opinion by the three-member liberal minority.<\/p>\n<p>Justice <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/amy-coney-barrett\">Amy Coney Barrett<\/a>, one of six Republican-appointed justices on the conservative-majority court, authored a 9-0 unanimous decision in a bankruptcy case known as <i><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/opinions\/22pdf\/21-908_n6io.pdf\">Bartenwerfer v. Buckley<\/a><\/i>. Following the decision, a 6-3 opinion was issued by liberal Justice Elena Kagan in a labor dispute called <i><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/opinions\/22pdf\/21-984_j426.pdf\">Helix Energy Solutions Group against Hewitt<\/a><\/i>The liberal Justice followed with a 5-4 decision <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/sonia-sotomayor\">Sonia Sotomayor<\/a> Favoriting death row inmates <i><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/opinions\/22pdf\/21-846_lkgn.pdf\">Cruz v. Arizona<\/a><\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>In <i>Bartenwerfer,\u00a0<\/i>The full court ruled that bankruptcy debts incurred through fraudulent activities cannot be discharged in bankruptcy petitions, even if the filer was not guilty of the fraud. Justice was pleased with this decision. <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/ketanji-brown-jackson\">Ketanji Brown Jackson<\/a> Sotomayor and Barrett concurring in Barrett&#8217;s opinion.<\/p>\n<p><b><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/courts\/twitter-case-supreme-court-terrorism\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SUPREME CASES WITH MAJOR IMPLICATIONS PERIODS FOR INTERNET WILL BE HEARED BY THE SUPREME COMMITTEE.<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Next, the majority court ruled Michael Hewitt, Helix Energy employee, is entitled overtime pay, despite him earning more than $200,000 per year. This was based on the fact that Hewitt wasn&#8217;t a salaried worker. Jackson, Justice Clarence Thomas (Civil Justice), Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Clarence Thomas (Justice Clarence Thomas) joined the nonideological ruling.<\/p>\n<p>Sotomayor wrote the final opinion in support of an Arizona death row prisoner who claimed he should be allowed challenge his sentence in federal courts but was prevented by a procedural rule. The Supreme Court of Arizona can&#8217;t rely on state procedural laws to stop state prisoners from bringing claims under the federal constitution. A Republican-appointed Justice joined the decision. <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/brett-kavanaugh\">Brett Kavanaugh<\/a> Together with Roberts, Kagan and Jackson.<\/p>\n<p>The <i>Cruz\u00a0<\/i>Case was, in light of its significance, the most striking. <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2023\/jan\/12\/us-supreme-court-death-row-executions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Extremely rare<\/a> The conservative Supreme Court granted a legal victory for death row inmates. Justice Samuel Alito wrote 21% of the opinions in ideologically polarized cases while Roberts or Thomas each wrote 29% according to the same criteria. <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/fivethirtyeight.com\/features\/the-supreme-courts-partisan-divide-hasnt-been-this-sharp-in-generations\/\">According<\/a> Data from SCOTUSBlog. Alito also dominated 78% of the cases that were divided last term, compared to 58% two years ago.<\/p>\n<p>Notably, Roberts, Kavanaugh and Kavanaugh were appointed by Republican presidents.
