Pa. \/ Getty Images    <\/p>\n<p>John Fetterman, the then-Pennsylvania Senate Candidate (D.), pointed out a doctor&#8217;s note in June 2022 that indicated he could. &#8220;campaign and serve in the U.S. Senate without a problem&#8221; After suffering a stroke, Fetterman returned to work in August. Fetterman returned to the campaign trail in August after suffering a stroke. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JohnFetterman\/status\/1558239963128414208?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Telled<\/a> He was voted by voters &#8220;feeling great, better than I have in years.&#8221; His campaign also released an October doctor&#8217;s note, giving Fetterman a clean bill.<\/p>\n<p>Fast forward six weeks and Fetterman paints a starkly different picture of the medical advice that he received on his campaign trail. Fetterman was taken to hospital earlier in the month for lightheadedness. <em>New York Times <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/02\/10\/us\/politics\/john-fetterman-senate-stroke.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> That is what the freshman senator believes &#8220;he may have set himself back permanently by not taking the recommended amount of rest during the campaign&#8221; After his stroke.<\/p>\n<p>Fetterman is now being treated at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. &#8220;severe&#8221; clinical depression\u2014his second hospital stay during his six weeks in office. The contrasting and contradictory statements raise questions about what medical advice the stroke survivor actually received, and whether he was candid about it with voters\u2014or whether he or his advisers shaded the truth in order win one of the most competitive Senate races in the country.<\/p>\n<p>Fetterman&#8217;s Office did not respond to our request for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Fetterman had an ischemic stroke on May 13th. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/health\/health-news\/stroke-survivors-speak-john-fettermans-debate-struggles-rcna54216\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">End result<\/a> A blood clot is a blockage of the brain&#8217;s ability to receive nutrients and oxygen. Stroke victims may experience permanent damage. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/stroke\/about.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">brain damage<\/a> Fetterman and others have difficulty processing sound.<\/p>\n<p>According to the CDC, it can take as little as one hour. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/stroke\/treatments.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8220;years&#8221;<\/a> Some stroke victims never fully recover. Johns Hopkins Medicine recommends stroke victims spend the first three month after a stroke focusing on rehabilitation and development. &#8220;compensation strategies to work around a functional impairment,&#8221; Like &#8220;learning to hold a toothpaste tube so the strong hand can unscrew the cap.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Adam Jentleson, Fetterman&#8217;s chief of staff, spoke out about the <em>Times, <\/em>&#8220;what you&#8217;re supposed to do to recover from this is do as little as possible.&#8221; Fetterman, however, &#8220;was forced to do as much as possible,&#8221; Jentleson.<\/p>\n<p>It is not clear who suggested that Fetterman get more rest during the day.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In June 2022, then-Pennsylvania Senate candidate John Fetterman (D.) pointed to a doctor&#8217;s note that indicated he could &#8220;campaign and serve in the U.S. Senate without a problem&#8221; after suffering a stroke in May.
