This could have caused shrapnel to be released throughout the small community. Five train cars emitted vinyl chloride, a carcinogenic chemical, in massive plumes visible across eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n<p>Giant Eagle, which has its headquarters in Pittsburgh and stores throughout Ohio and Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Indiana, stated that they source water for large containers from a Salineville factory in Ohio about 25 miles southwest the accident.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Out of an abundance of caution,&#8221; The company stated in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wkbn.com\/news\/local-news\/east-palestine-train-derailment\/giant-eagle-removes-some-bottled-water-after-train-derailment\/?ipid=promo-link-block1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Statement<\/a> WKBN &#8220;Giant Eagle has made the decision to remove all gallon-size-or-greater Giant Eagle brand spring water product sourced from the Salineville facility from our store shelves until further notice while we continue to evaluate ongoing testing and potential impacts to the spring source.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>After utilities in Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky, and Northern Kentucky shut down Ohio River water intake valves on Sunday morning, the announcement was made. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/cincinnati-and-northern-kentucky-shut-down-water-intakes-after-train-derailment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Concerns<\/a> Concerns about contamination by materials in the train accident. Norfolk Southern is not responsible for vinyl chloride being released. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/company-responsible-for-ohio-train-derailment-issues-list-of-cancer-causing-substances-released\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Beware<\/a> According to the EPA, a number other volatile chemicals such as ethylene glycol monobutyl ether or ethylhexyl acrylate could have been present at the site of the derailment. After residents were informed they could return home, the EPA published the complete list of substances at the site.<\/p>\n<p>The incident has not been confirmed by third-party laboratory tests that have been conducted on the Salineville Spring. &#8220;Giant Eagle has been in daily contact with representatives from the facility and has learned that the water used in these products comes from a protected spring located at a higher elevation than East Palestine and is not near ground water sources directly impacted by the incident,&#8221; The statement went on.<\/p>\n<p>One spokesperson for company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cleveland19.com\/2023\/02\/22\/how-identify-if-you-have-giant-eagle-brand-water-spring-columbiana-county-made-after-train-derailment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Telled<\/a> WOIO customers may be eligible for compensation for gallon-size containers or larger that have a best-by date of February 3, 2025. &#8220;We understand that some guests may prefer to return previously purchased gallon-size Giant Eagle spring water,&#8221; The spokesperson continued. &#8220;Interested guests are invited to bring in either the product itself or a qualifying receipt to their local Giant Eagle, Market District or GetGo location to receive a refund on the purchased product.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Federal and state officials both stated that extensive water and air quality testing have not found any evidence of contamination.
