The 35-year old Mississippi-native was crowned the winner. Jodi Geschickter, a part-owner, became the second woman owner to win a Daytona 500.<\/p>\n<p>It was a significant victory for both the driver and his crew, but it also brought great joy to his family. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.outkick.com\/sports\/nascar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">NASCAR<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Daugherty is among two Black principal owners of Cup charter-equipped race teams. Former No. The former No. 1 pick in 1986 NBA Draft, and five-time NBA All-Star was retired by the Cleveland Cavaliers. He scored more than 10,000 points during his career.<\/p>\n<p>He is a North Carolina basketball icon and owns JTG Daugherty Racing. Michael Jordan, another North Carolina basketball great, co-owns 23XI Racing along with Denny Hamlin.<\/p>\n<p>23XI had never won a Daytona 500. So Daugherty got it back on Jordan.<\/p>\n<p>Five times, Daugherty was with Cleveland in the playoffs. In his five playoff runs, four of them ended in defeat to Jordan the Bulls.<\/p>\n<p>In 1989, Jordan hit the \u2018The Shot&#8217; and eliminated Daugherty and the Cavs in the process.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div id=\"g1-fluid-wrapper-counter-1\" class=\"g1-fluid-wrapper\" data-g1-fluid-width=\"662\" data-g1-fluid-height=\"372\">\n<div class=\"g1-fluid-wrapper-inner\">\n\t       [embedded content]\n\t       <\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Daugherty has finally won bragging rights following Sunday&#8217;s Florida win by Stenhouse Jr.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>I talked with him for a couple of minutes. He claimed that he and Michael Jordan were already talking trash.<\/p>\n<p><cite>\u2014 Jodi Geschickter, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.charlotteobserver.com\/sports\/nascar-auto-racing\/article272551383.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">The Charlotte Observer<\/a><\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Jordan 4 \u2014 Daugherty 1!<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"h-ricky-stenhouse-jr-s-victory-looked-different-than-most\">Ricky Stenhouse Jr.&#8217;s win was different than most.<\/h3>\n<p>From the standpoint of the driver who finally got his long-awaited win, the win was different. It was also different from the perspective of his supporters.<\/p>\n<p>Tad Geschickter, along with his wife Daugherty and Gordon Smith, runs the race team. He appreciates the uniqueness of JTG Daugherty. He <a href=\"https:\/\/www.charlotteobserver.com\/sports\/nascar-auto-racing\/article272551383.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">to the Charlotte Observer<\/a> The NASCAR garages aren&#8217;t representative of America&#8217;s past 55 years.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>Every person has their own perspective and talents. Brad adds an interesting element to our work, a different way of thinking, a new background. I believe the same goes for our engineers, our tire-changers and our drivers. It&#8217;s a vital need. NASCAR has already made this a priority. However, it served a purpose beyond tires meeting the track.
